Update on Yuri Wright

Submitted by MGoCooper on

It was reported earlier by TomVH and Sam Webb, that Yuri Wright would not be visiting this weekend.

Our old friend Tim says that both Yuri and his coach say he will be here this weekend. To have both the coach and player say they still plan on attending this close to the actual date is well, weird. I'm not certain of what is going in with this recruitment, but nothing really adds up.

I hope those who were bagging on the kid show up and apologize. I was ashamed to read some of the comments on the last thread. It looked like bucknuts after they lost Kalis (well not quite, but still...).

Completly conjecture on my part -- Hoke said no thanks, his coach is coming along to convince Hoke/Mattison that Yuri is a good fit or explain any character issues that may have come up.

The kid is a 5* talent, sign him up!

that's not a crazy idea, but i don't think that kind of stuff happens in recruiting.  a coach might make a real effort to sell an unknown talent, but not someone with the pub and track record of yuri wright.  i think that if we told his coach that we didn't want him that they'd move on.  that said, who the hell knows what's going on.

...buckle up.

It's sorta like Christmas when you were a kid. You couldn't stop yourself from checking out the presents under the tree. You'd size them up trying to guess what would fit in that package or pick them up to feel the weight and of course the shake. Anything to get clues as to what's behind the paper.

dood, if you stopped following recruiting so closely, why did you post a comment on the "Update on Yuri Wright," unless like you actually wanted to know the update.  On a recruiting matter.

I'm not doubting Sam Webb and Tom, I would tend to side with their reports at this point. I'm just confused that both coach and player still say he's visiting. This reminds me of the week before the NFL draft, where you can't believe anything you hear.

Corso should be saying, "Awwwww fuck it".

Also, even though I am a Rivals member, they dropped the ball on this Yuri Wright thing.  I would go with what TomVH / Sam say over them on this one for sure.

Tim was hinting as much that he might not visit earlier by saying "We have to go with what the coaches tell us, and that's what they're telling us" (quote inexact, but jest is there)

I don't have Scout, and Tom said he will have the full story out tomorrow.

Safe to trust Tom in this situation and just trust that tomorrow we will know why.  Also, that list on Rivals has Sam Grant as a maybe while TomVH has confirmed.

I will ALWAYS trust Tom with recruit visit info over the other sites, that is his specialty.  ESPN still has a sucky format, and their rankings are a joke.

Why is it such a problem to let him come and visit?  He is not taking someone else's spot on the visit.  Hear him and his coach out.  This school has someone we are interested in for next year and I am sure more down the line.  What can it hurt?

I don't know shit about recruiting, which pretty much qualifies me as an insider, but maybe both coach and player felt compelled to comment to address the possible innuendo circulating

whose recruitment seems like an up and down roller coaster or even a mini-soap opera.  You don't know what's going to happen next.  This year we've had both Dunn and Wright to drive the "idle speculation" meter to the top of the dial.  Hopefully, Wright's situation will be settled before signing day.  It's starting to give me a headache.

It's clear you have no idea how difficult it is to gain the contacts and trust with these kids, especially with recruiting information becoming such a competitive market. It took Tom a long time to get to that level. Ace has done a great job in such a short time.

It took Tom a long time to get to that level.

No it didn't. All Tom did was Facebook stalk Anthony Fera and cold-call recruits' parents. If someone really wants to do this (which, why?) it's not hard.

Damn free internet recruiting news.  Damn free blogs that i'm forced to follow with their damn free reporters and updates to me.  Damn Ace and the fact he's not TomV.

My needs have not been adequately met on this issue.  Please see that I am quickly and professionally taken care of and that all my recruiting questions are answered promptly and free of charge.
