Come on... I <3 Angelique but she's clearly a Michigan homer.  I don't have a problem with that per se but when one is awarding an annual award, I'm looking for more depth in one's work than her fluff pieces.

Albom deserved his awards early in his career.  It's just when his head swelled to a point where a polo shirt is a physical impossibility that he became a joke.   Albom writes like he remembers that he went to lit class, and he has gotten books that have nothing to do with sports on the NYT Bestseller list.

Albom may be a pompous douchebag now, but he is quite a talented writer when he remembers to subjugate his Napoleonic ego.

Sportswriters vote on everything, so shouldn't - you know - READERS vote on awards that they made to bestow on themselves?

John Niyo of the News has been the best print sports journalist in the state the past couple years and it hasn't even been close.
