Basketball Open Thread: NW at Michigan

Submitted by michfan4borw on

(EDIT update: UM 66 NW 64 final; OT) Michigan looks to continue its success defending home court.  A win tonight would move Michigan into a tie with Illinois for second place in the conference.  Of course no game is guaranteed for the favored team (e.g. OSU losing again last night).  Game starts at 630 EST.  Current standings:

TEAM CONF OVERALL
Michigan State 4-0 15-2
Illinois 4-1 15-3
Indiana 3-1 15-1
Michigan 3-1 13-3
Purdue 3-1 13-4
Ohio State 3-2 15-3
Iowa 2-3 10-8
Northwestern 1-2 11-4
Wisconsin 1-3 12-5
Penn State 1-3 9-8
Minnesota 0-4 12-5
Nebraska 0-4 8-7

It seems like every team we should blow out keeps it close but loses to us. Then against every team we should lose to, we lose but keep it close. If we are supposed to win by a small margin, we win by a lot.

THJ really steppin up. If we don't start playing hard on defense he's gonna need to go truly HAM for us to pull this one out.

Encouraging news on Horford today. With Smot, Novak, and Morgan in perpetual foul trouble (even at home apparently), and McLimans being McLimans, we could really use Horford down the home stretch.

About the only complaint I can make about Beilein's coaching is that for some reason, we regularly struggle to get off a good shot on these end-of-the-half possessions.

I think that point is arguable. There have been a few ugly/forced shots like the one at the end of the half, but most of the shots have been the same open shots that the team has been taking all year.

The shots just need to drop consistently. Our guys have to knock them down where they are there. Most of the misses have just been missed shots that are bound to go in at some point, considering the statistics from the previous games in the season.

Against a 1,3,1 zone. The team also did more film study than running court situations the last couple days to get back their legs after WI game. I think burke will have a solid second half.
