Wasn't there an uproar b/c Hoke didn't hire him b/c of his race?  Also, wasn't there an uproar b/c recruiting would take a dive with a staff made up of mostly old white guys?

Michael Taylor (QB from 1987-89) made the whole thing a race issue when Hoke didn't go after him.

I do wish the best for Cornflakes Brown.  He was a great player for us.  For some reason, the first play I always think of when I hear his name is when he picked off the Kirk Herbstreet pass in 91, right after Tony Henderson leveled him.

Did Taylor claim it was race-related? If I remember correctly, Taylor never accused Hoke of being racist; I think he was just pissed off that Brown placed several calls to Hoke inquiring about a position on his staff and that his calls went unreturned. Taylor drew some kind of parallel to former players criticizing Rodriguez that I didn't quite understand.

I think the reason Brown was never seriously considered for a position on the staff is because of the rumors that he recruited negatively against Michigan while he was at Notre Dame. Also,  people who worked with him when he was with the Patriots said that he simply wasn't a very good coach.

I don't think there was an uproar that Hoke didn't hire Brown because he's black. There was a debate re why programs like Michigan hire so few black coaches. Which is a fair question. You're reading it in a crass and frankly obnoxious white-guy way, especially given that Brown is evidently dealing with some substantial mental issues. Got it, Goober?

What does matter is that itis time for MIchigan to take care of one of their own.  Even a layman can see that Brown has a classic case of CTE from too many head shots as a player.  Brown needs medical help: not incarceration.

My guess is that if the jury buys the notion of concussions causing these rapids mood swings and mental issues (which is always a crapshoot), he'll be placed into a medical facility where he'll be helped.  Putting him in prison would be a waste of resources.

My first & favorite memory of CB is when he hit the nd RB (Reggie Brooks?) and knocked him out. Of course, Brooks fell face first into the end zone for a TD, but he paid for it!
