OT: Fran McCaffery (Iowa BB coach) just slammed a chair onto the floor at Breslin (now with video)
Wow. Haven't seen a crazy display like this from a coach in a long time.
One of MSU's players--I think Thornton--was fighting for position with Basabe (Iowa player) and McCaffery, being frustrated (down by 28 with 11 minutes to go), started yelling at the refs. He got T'ed up and then he went over to his team to start yelling at them, and during the yelling he slammed a chair onto the floor of the Breslin Center.
Edit:
Finally got a video.

I thought Knight put a patent on it

Bob Knight jr?
He should have threw the chair across the court

He literally grabbed the chair over his shoulder and then slammed it down while yelling at his entire team in the huddle. It was hilarious.

Meh. Not even in the same universe. McCaffery
was just yelling at his players. The chair stomping was in his own team's huddle.Knight hated a ref's call and him being the massive tool he was, threw the chair across the floor like a 5 year old.

Video link? I wanna see!

The guy's a total hothead. I remember him going ballistic when we beat them in Iowa City last year.

Do you think he was really mad?

Sometimes coaches try to fire up their team by getting a technical. Didn't quite work out that way. MSU was leading by 28 with 11 minutes to go, now they're up by 41 with 7 minutes to go.

Final score: 95-61. I knew it was going to be bad after the Hawks missed a layup less than 2 minutes into the game.

I wanna see a video of this! He was probably just firing up his team for the next game.

wonder if the maintenance crew went out there to see if there were dents in the floor!

That was a cold-blooded calculation.

He took the Michigan Bar (which is administered on the floor of the Breslin Center), and just found out he failed and wanted to take out his frustrations on the testing site.

will he get fired?

It's a refreshing change from Ferentz's pulseless musings.

It was a nice powerbomb type chair slam...personally i would have liked to see a slam with a little throwing mixed in. None the less a solid display from Fran.

I fell asleep on the couch during halftime and woke up with like 7:00 left in the game. Anxiously awaiting the YouTubeage. (Tubage?)

Finally got a video (posted on the OP).

"I regret my actions earlier this evening on the floor of the Breslin Center. As a head coach representing the Big Ten, the University of Iowa and these fine young men, students who work hard and are proud to call themselves Hawkeyes, I must hold myself to a higher standard. You can be sure that in the future I will find more constructive ways to educate and fire-up our players.
Thank you for your support and the opportunity to be your coach. I look forward to our matchup with the University of Michigan Wolverines. They're a talented squad and we have our work cut out for us. Go Hawkeyes!"

I was there, on 3 straight possessions an MSU player ended up riding an Iowa player like a donkey twice with no call and the third trip was a clear foul audible from my seat not called on MSU.
Fran spent a couple moments talking to the ref on the sideline and he said the magic words which got him a 'T'. He then stormed on the court along with his 2 other assistants to berate the other official. I was pretty surprised Iowa didn't get a second.
In the huddle he simply blasted into his team because they flat out weren't competing out there at all. I'm also pretty sure the chair left a dent in Sparty's nice shiny floor.

That was quite tame. I was expecting it to be far worse.

this was needed about 20 minutes earlier in the game. Pretty pointless trying to fire his team up with the clock winding down and his team down by a kajillion points.
