I kinda wish he wasn't such a highly rated prospect so early. It's going to be hard for him to stay humble.

Just because he is an initial five-star, it will be tough to stay humble? If you do not know Shane personally, I think this is a completely unnecessary comment. To question the kid's heart and character without even knowing him is pretty ridiculous. From all accounts we have seen, Shane is constantly working on his game both during the season, and in the offseason, and I don't know why this would change just becuase he is a five-star prospect. On what basis will it be hard for him to stay humble? If anything it is good for both Shane and Michigan to have such a highly rated quarterback locked up in this class, which will allow him and the coaching staff to lure other highly touted prospects to Ann Arbor. I completely disagree with your view, and I think it is irresponsible to suggest that Michigan has recruited a kid that would have a lack of motivation based on his ranking.

I'm with Jim here. I think everyone is being too critical of aaamichfan. He is merely hoping that the 5 star rankings and all the media attention will not go to Shane's head. He never said he thought it would or that the media attention will get to Shane. Aaamichfan is not actually criticizing Shane's character. From what we have heard Shane is a great kid, but a kid nonetheless, who is going to have the world of college football hounding him and telling him how great he is. From what it sounds like, he will be abe to handle it fine, but if he gets a big head and doesn't put the work in to be a successful QB, then we could be really crippled by it. We aren't getting a QB this year, and if Gardner doesn't get his RS and Bellomy doesn't develop then Shane will be our starter as a true sophomore. Losing him would cripple our depth just like losing Justin Turner did, a 5 star who thought he was too talented to put the time in. Plenty of 5 stars recruited by Michigan have not panned out and they have not been the most humble guys (Mallet [he was good but most probably would have thought he had more talent than he utilized] and Campbell).

Here is a link to the whole Florida debacle with their 5 star defensive players not showing up to practice and threatening to transfer: http://www.alligator.org/sports/football/article_380a213c-b07e-11df-bee7-001cc4c03286.html. They even compared themselves to the Big Three of the Miami Heat. As much as I like following recruting, it seems to be getting out of hand. The NCAA should crack down on recruiting also, but they won't. Relax and let's recognize that Shane seems to be a great kid and hopefully will represent the University of Michigan well in all regards.

By all accounts, he is a good kid. However, there is still another 1.5 years until he hits campus, and he has already has old men basically offering the sexual services of their daughters to him. Even the most grounded kids are susceptible to too much hype, and I don't see it ever being a good thing for development.

I guess we can agree to disagree. Being a highly touted recruit doesn't mean a kid isn't going to stay humble. I guess it was hard for Dorial Green-Beckham and Jonathan Gray to stay humble this year when they were initial fiv-stars as well. All they did was go out their senior years and break national records. I don't see why it is necessary to suggest that he won't stay humble if you don't know the kid personally. I do not know him either, and I'm not saying he will stay humble, but I just think suggesting this is unnecessary. And to me, the most important thing here is that it's a good thing to have a five-star qb in this class that the coaches can sell to other top recruits, as well as having Shane personally recruit himself. I just don't see how it is a bad thing, that's all I'm saying. This could also be a good thing, because he could feel like he has to live up to that five-star rating, and will work that much harder to prove to everyone that he is worthy of that honor. I just think it was an irresponsible suggestion, that's all.

He was a great example of a humble star working towards winning a championship UNTIL he went to Miami.  No one could really criticize LBJ that much until the move to Miami.  And he was hyped like crazy since he was what, 14.

I agree that in the past 2 years he's become a prima donna, but I don't think the hype from a young age drove him to become the man he is.

I still understand where he's coming from, though. Even if he's the most humble kid in the country, he will have to get adjusted to increased media attention over the next year, and that can get to any kid's head. But I agree with you in the sense that I don't think character will be an issue. Not to say that Hoke's recruits are all going to be comprised of goodie goodie eagle scouts, but I don't think Hoke would have extended an offer if there were questions in Shane's character.

Besides, given the amount of recruiting Shane does for the school on his own, its easy to tell he loves this school, and already feels a part of it. I have little reason to worry about him at this moment in time.

For comparison, if Shane were in the 2012 class, his grade of 97 would make him the second best QB behind Gunner Kiel.  The same Gunner Kiel who Shane allegedly out-performed in camps

I hope that the hype around Shane Morris helps bring in some monster talent this year. I'd love for Michigan to start looking like it does in my Dynasties with all 5* recruits at every position.

To Shane is that he is attending the greatest university in the world. I know Shane personally and I can say with confidence it does not matter to him if he is a 3 star or a 5 star now that he is going to Michigan. The only reason he would care about his star rating is to help bring in the best talent in the country. He is really a humble kid who wants to be the best player he can be and truly cares about his teammates.

But as an MSU alum, I can say Morris is the most jealous I've been of a UM recruit in recent memory. I'm no talent expert, but in my novice opinion Morris has every tool needed to succeed as early as year 1. I watched his highlight tape, and the kid was making professional throws as a sophomore. Add on top of that the fact that he's a southpaw? If I had to put money on it, I'd say he has a shot (with hard work, obviously) to be the next 'Andrew Luck' as far as eventual draft hype goes.
