Grey Facemasks Tonight?

Submitted by Yonkers on

Just was watching college football live and they were showing denards helmet in his locker cubby, and it had a grey facemask. Are they going to be grey tonight? I'm in favor of them, they look sweet.

I am sooo at the edge of my seat in eager anticipation at this development.

But, does coach Hoke know that there are a group of people who think grey goes so very well with scarlet, and because of those people, Michigan changed the color of their facemasks?

Glad you think they look sweet, though.

I haven't minded any particular alternate uniform this season except the MSU one (too much maize).  But this is Michigan, dammit.  We don't need to break out a slightly different outfit for every game.  I don't care if they pick blue or gray facemasks, helmet numbers or not, but pick one and stick with it.  Hell, I wouldn't even mind one alternate uniform per season that much. But this season we will have used three helmets, two home jerseys, four away jerseys (for only five away games!), and two pairs of pants.  We're the winningest program in history, and we shouldn't need gimmicks like this.

Yes they will be wearing the Legacy Helmets for this game, I remember hearing it when the Sugar Bowl uniform was released.

Hopefully the record wearing those helmets can move to 2-0 on the season.

God I love the internet.

I'm old enough to remember when you tuned into a bowl game when it started on TV, and turned it off when it was over.  The next day there was a paragraph about it in the newspaper.  If you were really lucky, there was a color picture.  That was the whole show.

There was nothing else . . . no scouting, no hype videos, no sneak peaks at unis, no post-win Muppets.  Nothing.  If you observed something of interest, you were left to pontificate it on your own.  If you had a question, there was nobody to ask.

Now we can discuss the facemasks, the jerseys, the players' dreads, Brady Hoke's game-day diet, the color and texture of the artificial turf, the hotness of the cheerleaders, 1st quarter tendencies . . . all two weeks before the game.

Not living in the Midwest, I used to be starved for information on Michigan.  I've now reached a saturation point by the time the players arrive at the bowl city.

I'm unsure about the grey facemasks.

Apparently, Michigan used to have grey facemasks when Bo came in.  He said to get rid of them because another school wore grey.  I would have liked to think that they would have never returned, oh well.

I can understand being tired of the jersey changes (although I think they were prompted by the players' dislike for their original 2011 jerseys), but I can't get worked up about facemasks.

The kids seem pretty fired up about it from what the photo op and presser looked like..ultimately those are the opinions which mean the most...The fab 5 brought on black socks and long maize shorts/unis..things do change. I personally like the traditional navy jersey, simple maize number and name, regular winged helmet. I did notice that perhaps our sugarbowl jerseys are a simple Adidas template that looks just like Nerdbraska's twin stripes on the shoulderpad area...I don't mind them, I think it's part of our 'history' now and going from five win seasons to ELEVEN WINS...I'll be just fine with Jersey tinkering...because in the end, those kids in team 132 are what matter most to me...great group of young men who stuck it out for more than most would have...GO BLUE. Regardless of the unis...it's the boys that make that team.

Who besides those on this site with esoteric knowledge would even recognize them and know they used to be grey? More importantly, who would want them to go back to that? What's next, big puffy 80's shoulder pads and mesh jerseys?
