unOFFICIAL Pre-Sugar Bowl Open Thread

Submitted by Mr. Yost on

I'm sure like me, many of you are anxious for tonights game...so for those that would like to engage in some pre-game talk, here ya go!

To help spur on some conversation, here are some random thoughts I've had thus far today:

"Is Coach Hoke REALLY not going to eat today? The game won't be over until midnight due to the long halftime and commercial break."

"I hope we're ready to play in the odd lighting of a dome."

"I hope our coaches and players take into account that there may be fireworks set off pregame, it may affect the game early due to the smoke."

"Seriously, Coach, get a smoothie or something...techincally that's not "eating" is it?"

"Mike Martin is going to go buckwild tonight."

"Those jersey's aren't bad...I'd like to see them without the stripes."

"The B1G is stinking up the joint. We have to have a good showing"

"I hope this "no one says we should be here" mentality of VT doesn't give them an edge."

"I wonder if the guys are more or less nervous than the Ohio game?"

"Coach, I won't tell anyone, you can't go all day without eating, it's not safe...you're a big boy, but big boys gotta eat too!"

but so far two analysts have picked against us. Thanks for nothing Todd McShay and David Pollack. Don't know Pollack's track record with his picks, but I'm sure it isn't a big deal. Geaux Blue.

Yeah, it seemed like the popular opinion from the analysts was VT would be motivated by the negitive media around them being selected for a BCS game. Knowing what our senior class has been through with negitive media over their entire careers I find it hard to believe we will be lacking any motivation.

I was getting very annoyed after VT got picked for the Sugar Bowl. The media wasted no time giving them bulletin-board material. Heck, Herbstreit ripped into them on national tv the minute they got chosen. They will definitely be very motivated, but as we have seen with Team 132 motivation and heart is definitely not an issue.

I look at this like our bball team making it to the Sweet 16. That's a good season, especially for the expectations they have this year.

As for the game, you have conference pride on the line...but it's a BCS football game, that IS a big deal. Of course you want to win. Just like you want to win a Rose Bowl, you want to win the Sugar Bowl. This isn't the Taxslayer.com Bowl or whatever Ohio just played in (I know, it's the Gator and we played in it last year, but I still will poke fun).

This helps leave a good taste in your mouth going into next season, but maybe more importantly in RECRUITING. It IS a big deal. We're the only game on TV, everyone is watching to see MICHIGAN. You have to go out there and show them who we are. Get people excited about the direction of the program.

These SENIORS also deserve to go out on a win, and a BOWL win, ever think of that?

And at the end of the day, like Coach said "every game is a big game and we want to win them all."

Will having the superior kicking game create a divide by zero whirlpool?

Do we see the 'guns' as our offense lines up, or are they afraid of retaliation because NO is a very seedy city.  (At least it was 3 years ago)

How will winning by 30 effect our preseason ranking next year?

Where is the best place to watch the game tonight in Ann Arbor? I've never watched a Michigan game in a bar before. Which ones have big screen TVs and good beer?

Why would you neg this thread? It's about Michigan talk for the Michigan game tonight...haha, some posters on this board are laughable.

Anyway, back to the thread topic.

Who do you guys feel will have the best games tonight?

I'm going to go with Denard Robinson and Mike Martin. I know, not really dangerous picks, but I don't think Va Tech can handle speed at the QB position, I think Denard will go for over 100 yards rushing. I also think Mike Martin is going to put on a clinic in the middle and boost his draft stock.

In their two losses to Clemson, the running game (Wilson) was held in check, and he was also held under 100 yards rushing in their close win over UNC, so if it is me, that would be the focus. There is also their uncanny ability to block kicks, so their special teams are certainly no slouch either.

I think we have the upper hand up front on offense and defense, and if we can stop big plays on defense and give Denard time to be Denard on offense, we walk away from New Orleans victorious. That's just me, of course.

Am I selfish to fear that Denard will have his national BCS bowl breakthrough performance while the NFL is evaluating him? If I can have three wishes they are that Denard will Denard the Hokies, that he will get a favorable evaluations, and that he will return for his National Championship Heisman Trophy year. Dang. Did I just jinx us?

just no way he goes pro this year, granted he is prolly going to get a 2nd to 3rd round grade based on just being a insane athlete, but no team will give him a shot at QB (unless the broncos go all College spread offence as Plan A next year)

RVB and Martin will account for at least 2-3 sacks tonight, and Fitzkrieg will account for 2 tds and roughly 130 yds. Still, this game will be coming down to the final minutes, and something tells me it will come down to our D having to make a stop on the final drive of the game. The way this season was meant to end.

but didn't want to create a seperate thread for this and it is Sugar Bowl related.

My question anyway would have been where and how often do we see Lloyd Brady?

Ok this is just crazy the guy is everywhere!

At the alumni association pep rally, front and center.  TREMENDOUS!
