There's a safety issue, as the ground is likely going to be frozen solid at that point. This came up a few years ago when the Metrodome collapsed from snow and the Vikings had to play a game at TCF Bank Stadium. Places like Soldier Field and Lambeau now have heating coils underneath to keep the ground soft into the winter, whereas college stadiums are only made to handle temperatures into November. Most of the player's didn't want to play since the ground was going to be rock solid. There's a good chance that contributed to the end of the Brett Favre's career.

We don't have a natural grass surface. FieldTurf is layed on concrete. Frozen concrete isn't harder than warm concrete, or at least at any measurable level. Sand and rubber which give the FieldTurf is "cushion" would be harder but I believe that New Yorks new stadium has FieldTurf and that seems to work just fine. "IF" a major bowl were to come to AA I'm sure that they would make more than enough money to install the heating coils if it was needed.

theres a reason that the 4 bcs bowls are in cali, florida, arizona and louisiana. all southern states, no bad weather.
as amazing as a big house bcs bowl would be it would never happen.

Why is it that hot dogs come in packs of eight, but until not all that long ago, certain brands of hot dog buns came in packs of six?
You'd have to invent another bowl and find two conferences that would be willing to suit up in potentially subfreezing temperatures. A few might, most wouldn't.

There aren't enough hotels in Ann Arbor to accomodate. If it weren't for many of our fans commuting (or stumbling down State St), we wouldn't be able to cram as many people in as we do. Goddamnit, I can't believe I replied to this.

To be fair, two are going in by Briarwood, and two are being considered downtown (I have my sources), so somebody is working on it. Still, to tell some unsuspecting fan that the nearest room is at the La Quinta in Dundee just doesn't work somehow.

If you've ever been to Pasadena on Jan 1, then you'd realize that the Rose Bowl experience is nearly heaven on earth. By comparison, there is no way you'd rather be in Ann Arbor for a game that time of year.

Same reason Super Bowl is played either in warm weather destinations or indoors every year, it is cold in January in Ann Arbor, Madison, Boston, Happy Valley, et al.....

I am not saying that a bowl in AA is a possibility but I hate the "it's too cold in January" line. We have become way too pampered. Heaven forbid that a big sporting event would be held in less than "ideal" conditions. The winter classic seems to do well as an outdoor event. The "Big Chill" seemed to be a successful event. I beleive that those games are held in cold weather. I can't wait for the New York Super Bowl. It is probably the only SB in my lifetime that I would want to go to (outside of SB34 that my team played in). I am praying it is played in snow.

I don't disagree, really, but the people who do are all the precious flowers in the South who would wilt if the mercury dropped below 60. Those are the people who we would theoretically want to come to this brand-new, instantly-prestigious bowl game.
