OT: The Pistons are TURRIBLE
After watching this team get demolished at home by the lowly Cavs, you'd think I'd be upset. But no, it's quite the opposite, I'm quite happy at these turn of events. Finally without knowing it, Dumars has finally built a roster that could land us a top 2 pick. My worst fear, was that we'd be in NBA "no mans land", meaning we'd be bad enough to miss the playoffs, but just good enough not to land a game changer in the draft. (I realize Brandon Knight is a great pick. However, any NBA exec worth the ground he stands, would have the wherewithal to pick a player of Knight's caliber who has slipped to 8th.) Here's to you, president of basketball operations. Finally, the angry pistons draft picks hating gods have been appeased.

Born and raised in the Detroit area during the 70's & 80's but living now in Cleveland (and being a Cavs season ticket holder for 15 years) I've seen great basketball and really crappy basketball. In the NBA these days you either need to be a destination city (and Detroit and Cleveland aren't) for free agents OR you need to draft well.
The general consenus by the experts this year was Irving was the real deal but that Tristin Thompson was a mega-stretch and the Cavs blew the 4th pick in the draft. The Cavs brain trust was just as adamant that they had targeted Thompson from the beginning and felt his upside was off the charts.
Now preseason and two games in I'd have to say the early reviews on TT are fantastic and way better than expectations. I'm hopefull we have 2 of the 5 pieces needed and at least one of these two guys turns into a superstart. If so we are on the road back from Lebronageddon.
The Pistons? They ARE Turrible and with the ridiculous contracts Dumars just gave out they have little hope of getting better anytime soon.

Piston roster is not that bad. They are only missing one thing; a superstar. Pistons are like the Tigers batting order if you excise Miguel Cabrera from the middle of the Tiger lineup, or the Cardinals sans Albert Pujols. Just like a lot of NBA teams, the Pistons need a straw to stir the drink

It has no direction, no chemisty, no anything. You put a superstar on this team and sure it's a lot better...but that's because of the way basketball is played in the NBA, not because you have a good TEAM.
Even LeBron James took one of the worst teams in the last 20 years of the NBA to the playoffs and deep into the playoffs a few years.
That's because in the NBA you can do that, Dwight Howard is doing it and has done it with the Magic.
But if you want a consistant championship TEAM you don't rely on that unless you can get 2-3 superstars. We can't. We have a much better chance trying to be the Thunder and finding a Kevin Durant to go along with a bunch of young talent that fit (minus Westbrook) than trying to get LeBron, DWade and Chris Bosh to come play with this piss poor squad we have.
