Hello: Chaka Daley - New Mens Soccer Coach
Michigan just announced the new men's head soccer coach, and it's Chaka Daley, former Providence coach. Like Hoke, Daley enjoys a good point:
Pretty much all of Daley's career has been at Providence College. He played at Providence from 1992-1996, had a brief pro career in the US until 1999, and coached at Providence after that ended.
Daley inherited a fairly mediocre program and has taken Providence to the NCAA tourney 5 times since 2005. This year they made it to the second round before losing to UCSB. Michigan stole him away despite Daley receiving a contract extension in August 2011.
It'll be interesting to see how Michigan's second head coach recruits with brand new facilities and a big name behind him.
Go Blue!

All Michigan needs now is a new baseball coach. Maloney just isn't doing it for me. He has never took the team to the college world series.

3 Big Ten Championships and one second place finish in 8 years just doesn't do it for you? He's had one year below .500 (last year) but I expect the team to improve. Considering that no Big Ten team has made the College World Series since Maloney has been at Michigan, I don't think you can really fault him for that. In fact, we're the last team to make it to the CWS.......in 1984.

I predict back-to-back national championship teams featuring tough team defense, led by top recruits Isiaha Thomas and Billa Laimbeer.

Hope he does well...
But I must say I am torn about college soccer... Needless to say I love the idea of Michigan kicking ass at soccer, but the collegiate system is one of the biggest reasons US Soccer blows compared to the rest of the world, and I essentually hope that collegiate soccer is completely replaced by a club system a la Europe.
Oh well. go blue.

The college system ain't perfect, that's for sure. But youth development has improved substantially in recent years and the colleges have turned out great drafts the last 3. Still it would be nice if we got rid of some of the silliness. Kids don't learn game management when coaches overselect for physical strength and speed because the substitution rules are insane.

So, on a scale of 1-10 how good of a hire is this? obviously the dream hire was the Akron coach, but im still hopeful this guy can take Michigan to dominance.

Hope the hire works out! Go Blue!!

I don't understand this hire at all. There are candidates with Michigan ties that have similar pedigree or qualifications and we hire a nobody from Providence? This is a Rich Rod soccer hire.
