Nike fans in luck: M gear

Submitted by HelloHeisman91 on
At the mall doing some Christmas shopping and stumbled onto some M Sugar Bowl gear at the Campus Den and it has the swoosh on it. The only items I found are a knit hat and a baseball cap but it's something for you fanatics.

the University staff who approved this design - not Adidas.  The fixation on Nike v Adidas has always baffled me.  The only way that ever made sense to me is if someone actually said they like the swoosh and they do not like the three-stripe triangle.

It is really interesting to see how strong of an emotional connection people have to Nike/Adidas.  I wish people would just admit that is the basis for their opinion because the stuff for sale to the public from both companies is quite comparable.

And no I am not an Adidas employee :-)

Nike had plenty of florescent yellow, i think the change in color happened over time, not when M switched companies. Be mad at the school for not holding Adidas to maize Adidas is just doing what they think will sell, hard to blame a money making business for trying to make money. I just really haven't seen much of a difference.

It's true. The Maize went way more neon with Adidas' arrival; especially the casual apparel. That, and it seemed like Nike respected our wishes to not change too much year-to-year. Then again, this was pre-"Combat unis/Oregon Weekly Abomination" era Nike. My Hart #20 home jersey is the only one I'll wear and I oh-so-badly want to get a #16. The Adidas track jacket is pretty dope, though.

I like adidas for the sole reason i can tell the reative age of my Michigan gear by the shoe company's logo it's sporting.

Quicker and just as accurate as carbon-testing imo.......

Had more imagination with their designs.  Adidas, for the most part, are boring and baically cut and paste from school to school.  Plus the highlighter yellow maize is awful (although that may be a TV visibility deal).

I have experienced a (percieved?) improvement in quality of construction and materials in the Adidas apparel I have purchased.  The seams hold up better, and the fabric seems to me to maintain it's feel and color better.

I kind of like Adidas and the colors they use, but thats just me liking vibrant colors. It wouldn't bug me on which maize Michigan uses, the color is not the reason why I love Michigan!

for the UTL unis, they are simply embarassing and the fiasco at Spartyland was salt in the wound.

The Sugar Bowl unis are OK, but this overdone stripe thing has to go!

I like the old Russel away unis, I would just add the maize trim around the blue numbers.

Nike didn't push to screw with our uniforms so much, but Adidas materials seem more durable and wearable.  ClimaCool and ClimaLite are fantastic ideas, especially golf/polos and tees for the summer.

Did you happen to see how many jerseys got shredded this year? How many times the players changed at halftime?
I 100% respect your opinion, but mine is the uniforms kinda sucked this year. We as a brand have enough weight to keep Nike honest. Terrible examples, but look at Alabama & Penn State. Same uniform. Traditional & clean. Sponsered by Nike. Adidas dressed us up like rodeo clowns. Not to mention Nike is a far superior product. imho

I've had an idea for a Michigan home uni for a few years now. the purest would hate it but personally i think it would look awesome. I'm terrible with graphic design or I might try and make a pic of my idea. I'll try and explain it Blue pants with maize piping down the side and maize block M at the hip. Blue Jersey with the Wings from the helmets on the shoulder pads. It would have to designed so the front of the wings (as on the helmet) hit right at the edge of the shoulder pads.
