Joshua Garnett update (Not Good)
The Notre Dame boards on scout and 247 are a buzz that Garnett is down to Stanford and Notre Dame. Which would seem to go along with the tweet below. Most of my Notre Dame friends say his visit to Notre Dame blew him away. If true, a tough break for the good guys.
Edit: Since the people saying this are just regular posters and not insiders, I didn't feel a conflict of interest in posting this. Then this tweet from Steve, seemed to confirm the rumors.

I don't think you can count us out until he actually announces where he is going. He is always talking to Magnusson and I don't think that he would take two visits here if we weren't going to be a factor in his final decision.

Jordan Diamond is in the process of announcing his top 5 teams.
December 15th, 2011 at 6:12 PM ^
I take that as a bad sign that he didn't just call it "ohio"
December 15th, 2011 at 6:19 PM ^
This is the longest announcement ever.
December 15th, 2011 at 8:04 PM ^
This isn't even his final announcement though. This is his top five. Two hours and we've only found out two of the teams.
December 15th, 2011 at 8:28 PM ^
he is going to sit in front of the cameras and crochet ski hats in the colors of five schools before putting one on.

That text just says he's favoring two schools after his ND visit. It doesn't say there is any variance from the two b schools he was favoring going into the visit. The art of online recruiting gurus is to try to create smoke with or without fire, and the fact that most recruits speak well of the schools they visit feeds into that.
December 15th, 2011 at 6:24 PM ^
Why ND honestly? They don't win, ever, their coach is a complete dick, their city blows...I just don't get it. Unless Garnett is dying to underachieve, why ND?
December 15th, 2011 at 6:28 PM ^
He wants to be a doctor and ND has an excellent pre-med program.
December 15th, 2011 at 6:31 PM ^
That can't be a reason to choose ND over Michigan or Stanford.
December 15th, 2011 at 6:50 PM ^
Thats the joke. ND does not have a med program.
December 15th, 2011 at 7:01 PM ^
They definitely have a pre-med program.
December 15th, 2011 at 7:03 PM ^
That doesn't matter. Princeton doesn't have a law school, doesn't mean it's a bad undergrad for pre-law.
December 15th, 2011 at 8:30 PM ^
The success of the football team is just one of many factors that go into the decision.
December 15th, 2011 at 6:26 PM ^
Garnett also tweeted this today:
I miss @erikmagnuson77 #teamlonely
— Joshua Garnett (@IamJoshG) December 15, 2011
I wouldn't count him out based on a visit reaction, especially since he had a similarly glowing review of Michigan. That said, he'll be a tough pull from the West Coast, but we already knew that.
[Edit: No idea why the embedded tweet is so far below the text, and there's no obvious solution in the HTML, so I guess it's just gonna stay that way.]
December 15th, 2011 at 6:37 PM ^
He's also been tweeting about his bro Ronnie Stanley, who committed to Notre Dame today. And he retweeted the announcement of Stanford guard David DeCastro's All-America status made by Stanford football's official Twitter page, so it's not impossible.
But I agree. Probably staying on the West Coast.

Magnuson, for what it's worth, tweets:
December 15th, 2011 at 6:49 PM ^
What about this tweet referencing Kyle Dodson?
December 15th, 2011 at 7:18 PM ^
That is unforseen...Would be great to get another Ohio roadgrater for our line, especially one who apparently verbaled to Ohio last week. /S
December 15th, 2011 at 6:31 PM ^
Isn't Yuri Wright visiting ND this coming weekend?
December 15th, 2011 at 6:32 PM ^
Yes, with his teammate Elijah Shumate.
December 15th, 2011 at 6:51 PM ^
Don't worry, he's visiting ND before he comes to UM. Curse avoided. Hopefully.
December 15th, 2011 at 6:44 PM ^
I think Jordan Diamond stopped his top 5 with Ohio. Which is wrong on two levels. He listed Ohio first, and he apparently can't count to 5.
December 15th, 2011 at 6:46 PM ^
Although I was really hoping he would come to Michigan, I never thought it would happen. I am fairly confident that we will land someone unexpected, like a Dodson or a Reeves.
December 15th, 2011 at 7:06 PM ^
....well there is that little ace card they hold in the form of "wild catholic school girls" running around the place.
December 15th, 2011 at 7:22 PM ^
With the tiny little mustache.
December 15th, 2011 at 7:17 PM ^
but it must be freakin awesome because the football team has been mediocre for about 20 years now and they always seem to reel in top recruits. They even have a coach with insane anger issues right now and they still are reeling em in. I don't understand
but I do sleep soundly knowing that a lot of these guys will continue to carry the torch of medicority at ND
December 15th, 2011 at 8:36 PM ^
If you want to know the truth about the quality of women in the South Bend area, here it is an I think this is pretty definitive THE LOCAL HOOTERS CLOSED THIS FALL.
December 15th, 2011 at 7:51 PM ^
We're likely to add another 4 star, whoever it is, before it is all over, so not getting Garnett is disappointing, but not too disappointing. He's always seemed a Stanford guy, and I'll just hope he goes there.
December 15th, 2011 at 8:15 PM ^
Come on magnuson!!
December 15th, 2011 at 8:37 PM ^
Really? Sounds like mommy is picking for him. Oh well great kid. Best of luck to him.
December 15th, 2011 at 8:52 PM ^
But if it's true, then it seems a safe bet that he had Stanford as #1 and he wasn't coming to Michigan anyway. So I guess better to know now while we can still lock in another O-lineman.
December 15th, 2011 at 9:52 PM ^
Isn't Diamond the one that is doing a documentary of his recruiting process? That just screams well adjusted young man to me... I never thought we had a real shot at him but when kids make the process into a big production (literally in this case) then I am fine with not getting them, it doesn't really mesh well with "the team, the team, the team".
As far as Garnett, I really thought we had him all but wrapped up with Stanford being the only other real choice and I can only echo the sentiments of many others in this thread by wondering what in the world ND is selling to these kids to consistently recruit so well and be so mediocre. They don't even put THAT many guys into the NFL now do they? Hopefully Wright doesn't get suckered by the purple faced spaz coaching the Papists.
December 16th, 2011 at 3:42 AM ^
This is the first time I'm hearing of a documentary. Do you have a source or a link to anything?
December 15th, 2011 at 10:43 PM ^
...following the discussion (most likely here):
erikmagnuson77@IamJoshG rumor goin around that michigan isn't in ur top 2... Dudes be comin up with the stupidest rumors we already know u are a Wolverine
December 15th, 2011 at 10:48 PM ^
I think Garnett stays on the west coach. In all seriousness - South Bend is just not a great place to be, but that is my impression only after multiple visits.
December 15th, 2011 at 10:56 PM ^
IMHO, ND's status as an independent probably is one of the biggest draws they have over Michigan. They play games on both coasts and get tons of airtime. The only way a school like Michigan, that belongs to a confrence can compete with that is by playing a crazy non confrence schedule. Alabama should help next year but in years past other than the occasional Oregon game, not much exposure outside of the midwest.
December 15th, 2011 at 11:17 PM ^
I cannot find it right now but a few days ago I saw that he eliminated Stanford. Its out there somewhere. So this means he is down to Michigan and Notre Dame fresh off the visit.
But we will win this one. Bank on it. Pos bang me after it happens, because it will.
