Joshua Garnett update (Not Good)

Submitted by MGoCooper on

The Notre Dame boards on scout  and 247 are a buzz that Garnett is down to Stanford and Notre Dame. Which would seem to go along with the tweet below. Most of my Notre Dame friends say his visit to Notre Dame blew him away. If true, a tough break for the good guys.

Edit: Since  the people saying this are just regular posters and not insiders, I didn't feel a conflict of interest in posting this. Then this tweet from Steve, seemed to confirm the rumors.

I don't think you can count us out until he actually announces where he is going. He is always talking to Magnusson and I don't think that he would take two visits here if we weren't going to be a factor in his final decision.

That text just says he's favoring two schools after his ND visit. It doesn't say there is any variance from the two b schools he was favoring going into the visit. The art of online recruiting gurus is to try to create smoke with or without fire, and the fact that most recruits speak well of the schools they visit feeds into that.

Why ND honestly?  They don't win, ever, their coach is a complete dick, their city blows...I just don't get it.  Unless Garnett is dying to underachieve, why ND?

Garnett also tweeted this today:

I wouldn't count him out based on a visit reaction, especially since he had a similarly glowing review of Michigan. That said, he'll be a tough pull from the West Coast, but we already knew that.

[Edit: No idea why the embedded tweet is so far below the text, and there's no obvious solution in the HTML, so I guess it's just gonna stay that way.]

He's also been tweeting about his bro Ronnie Stanley, who committed to Notre Dame today. And he retweeted the announcement of Stanford guard David DeCastro's All-America status made by Stanford football's official Twitter page, so it's not impossible.

But I agree. Probably staying on the West Coast.

Although I was really hoping he would come to Michigan, I never thought it would happen.  I am fairly confident that we will land someone unexpected, like a Dodson or a Reeves.

but it must be freakin awesome because the football team has been mediocre for about 20 years now and they always seem to reel in top recruits. They even have a coach with insane anger issues right now and they still are reeling em in. I don't understand

but I do sleep soundly knowing that a lot of these guys will continue to carry the torch of medicority at ND

We're likely to add another 4 star, whoever it is, before it is all over, so not getting Garnett is disappointing, but not too disappointing. He's always seemed a Stanford guy, and I'll just hope he goes there.

But if it's true, then it seems a safe bet that he had Stanford as #1 and he wasn't coming to Michigan anyway.  So I guess better to know now while we can still lock in another O-lineman.

Isn't Diamond the one that is doing a documentary of his recruiting process? That just screams well adjusted young man to me... I never thought we had a real shot at him but when kids make the process into a big production (literally in this case) then I am fine with not getting them, it doesn't really mesh well with "the team, the team, the team".

As far as Garnett, I really thought we had him all but wrapped up with Stanford being the only other real choice and I can only echo the sentiments of many others in this thread by wondering what in the world ND is selling to these kids to consistently recruit so well and be so mediocre. They don't even put THAT many guys into the NFL now do they? Hopefully Wright doesn't get suckered by the purple faced spaz coaching the Papists.

I think Garnett stays on the west coach.  In all seriousness - South Bend is just not a great place to be, but that is my impression only after multiple visits.

IMHO, ND's status as an independent probably is one of the biggest draws they have over Michigan. They play games on both coasts and get tons of airtime. The only way a school like Michigan, that belongs to a confrence can compete with that is by playing a crazy non confrence schedule. Alabama should help next year but in years past other than the occasional Oregon game, not much exposure outside of the midwest.

I cannot find it right now but a few days ago I saw that he eliminated Stanford. Its out there somewhere. So this means he is down to Michigan and Notre Dame fresh off the visit.

But we will win this one. Bank on it.   Pos bang me after it happens, because it will.
