Dropped Out: Clemson (#5), Rutgers (#16), Oregon State (#19), Virginia Tech (#20), Central Michigan (#25).
A note: I don’t look at previous ballots before submitting these so if something doesn’t make sense week to week that’s probably why. I figure if I can’t even remember what I rated a team in the preseason my opinion couldn’t have been that important.
So… Clemson really burned my ass. Serves me right for ignoring that offensive line and the Bowden thing.
One week into the season and the “no one will be a BCS buster” meme is under serious threat: Utah, BYU, Fresno State and maybe even East Carolina all look like potential ballroom crashers, and, hey, if they draw the ACC champ that would be a game.
In re: Utah. Beating Michigan wasn’t that much of an accomplishment, but I was impressed with Brian Johnson and their pounding Samoan running back. The defense? Hard to tell against that motley crew. Still: they were pretty good and authoritatively outgained Michigan.
Games watched: M-Utah, NC State-South Carolina, UCLA-Tennessee, MSU-Cal, portions of ECU-VT,

I don't see them in the top 25 for long......they were atrocious. Tennessee
should be embarrassed they lost.

Notre Dame, several times. I know that isn't as big as it used to be, but Michigan sure seemed to have a lot of trouble there until 2006.

We've done it three years in a row before this year (Notre Dame 2005 and 2007 - and 1997, 1999, 2001, and 2003 before that; Pitt 2006).

MSU plays ND exceptionally well every year, and I always look forward to the game. The spartans rarely seem intimidated and really take it to the Irish. I certainly wont miss this year's game either.

I realize that beating Michigan isn't a big deal, but BYU beat Northern Iowa at home and apparently looked ugly in the 2nd half. It seems like going on the road to win at Michigan should be worth more.

It pains me to say this, but USC should be #1 for flying across country and destroying Virginia 52-7. Much more impressive than anything OSU did against I-AA Youngstown State.

Yeah, I screwed the pooch on that Oregon State game. Somehow missed it... no, I'll just say I really love Beavers.
