Alabama 2012: OC McElwain to Colorado State

Alabama had an offense?
December 12th, 2011 at 9:37 PM ^
Seriously, so long as they can pump in the next batch of NFLers on defense, they probably aren't too worried.
December 13th, 2011 at 1:46 PM ^
Yeah, Trent Richardson.
December 12th, 2011 at 9:35 PM ^
Meh, Bama doesn't win games with their offense. Wake me up if news comes out that their DC and all of their draft eligible juniors/RS sophomores leave early for the NFL.

mmmmm

Sunshine Wheat Mmmmm

Will Dee Hart be healthy by then or do they have someone lined up right behind Trent already?
December 12th, 2011 at 9:42 PM ^
Not really. If (when) richardson leaves, then Hart is the next big gun in line. They had some RB attrition this offseason that was unexpected.

What about Eddie Lacy?
December 12th, 2011 at 9:54 PM ^
I kind of got the impression that Lacy wasn't going to be their feature back. I thought he got a lot of junk time yardage in both his freshman and sophomore season. I'm mostly basing this on what I read from Bama people who were totally enamored by Hart and calling him their next big-time back, and expecting him to get a significant amount of carries before the injury. Lacy seemed more like an afterthought. But perhaps I'm wrong

What about Eddie Lacy?
December 13th, 2011 at 8:17 AM ^
switched to a DB
December 13th, 2011 at 12:51 PM ^
No.
Third on the depth chart right now, it appears.
December 12th, 2011 at 9:48 PM ^
He's a monster, the guy averaged 7.5 YPC this season. It will not be fun to face a 220 pound running back with 4.4 speed.
December 12th, 2011 at 10:40 PM ^
I thought Richardson said he wanted to get a degree? Only heard it recently but forget where, but I wouldn't be surprised either way if he decides to leave or stay.
Also, I hate the name Dee Hart. It's like an ex-girlfriend's name with a really, really bad breakup. Makes me grumpy to think about the situation.
December 13th, 2011 at 10:33 AM ^
There are somewhere between 2,000 and 2,500 D-1 recruits a year. Dee Hart may end up gaining a lot of yards at Bama, but the loss of one recruit out of that many isn't going to hurt the University of Michigan. Ultimately, he's just another recruit who went somewhere else.
I'll take someone who wants to play at the University of Michigan over someone who doesn't any day of the week.

And meets Mr. Pipkins head-on!
December 12th, 2011 at 9:44 PM ^
Will this even have an effect on anything? As long as Saban is still there nothing will change.
December 12th, 2011 at 9:45 PM ^
Among the MAC teams ahead of them were Toledo (8), Northern Illinois (10), and Western Michigan (23). Granted, none of those had to get punched in the face by LSU for 60 minutes and they are in the MAC, but still.....statistically, better than Alabama.
December 12th, 2011 at 10:16 PM ^
It's hard to be impressed when their line is probably exclusively 4* and 5* guys who have made it thought the grayshirt gauntlet and they are plowing the way for a 5* running back. I think a lot of OC's could look pretty good with that kind of talent
December 12th, 2011 at 9:46 PM ^
Eh, Alabama isn't known for their offense as much as their D, but they are 30th in the nation in total O (Michigan is 34, Clemson is 29, Arkansas is 27, and ND is 33). So not bad company. How would we feel if we lost Borges. It may not hurt them too much, but it ain't gonna help them probably. Also, keep in mind that Saban is straight up a defensive mind, thus losing an effective o-coordinator may hurt them a bit more because the transition may not be as smooth.
December 12th, 2011 at 9:55 PM ^
Has anyone mentioned Eddie Lacy?
December 12th, 2011 at 10:09 PM ^
I thought the opposite! Perhaps, we'll see more offense during the "Mythical" cough cough Rematch Bowl.
December 12th, 2011 at 10:22 PM ^
How is it possible that I'm the first person to notice that McElwain is leaving Alabama to coach Colorado Fucking State. Srsly?
December 12th, 2011 at 10:40 PM ^
....Fort Collins is a great town and CSU is a decent school, but its a football wasteland compared to Bama. I feel like the OC at Bama should be able to do better than that unless he has some serious baggage.
December 12th, 2011 at 10:43 PM ^
Agreed. I'm biased as a Colorado alum, and Fort Collins is a nice enough town, but I was shocked he'd leave the SEC to coach there. They haven't won in the MWC, they have a pretty crappy stadium, and their attendence is awful despite a decent-sized alumni base not that far away in Denver. Not exactly the ideal situation to walk into.
December 12th, 2011 at 10:33 PM ^
get out before the oversigning grinds to a halt and 'Bama goes back to the glory of the MIke Shula years.
December 13th, 2011 at 5:53 AM ^
Most Bama fans are pretty happy he'll be gone.
