If you're a dual threat guy, it's hard to not consider Arizona at this point.  Matt Scott is Senior and will be gone after this year and the other guys on UA's depth chart are transferring.  I'm thinking he's going to try to pull in two QB's this year and Fuller would be a great get.

Now, wait a minute. Rich Rod would need to have a Feagin-like guy show up, burn his redshirt on special teams against Utah, play some Wildcat (wow, the term works at Arizona) against a 7-2 Oregon State team, and then get thrown out of school - maybe that's the "strike" part of your scenario...

Feagin was not going to be a quarterback for us. That "burnt" redshirt was an acknowledgement of that fact. Since he was the only potential quarterback in that class, that's the definition of striking out, so the commenter to whom you replied was correct.

I think RR said it best - something about only being interested in the people who were at Michigan.

Probably wouldn't be a bad philosophy to follow around here, but that's me.  I look back at our record for the three years RR was the coach and wonder why there is so much interest in the guy.

I realize that there are certain people who will always be interested in bashing or defending RR, and that might play into the number of threads, but speaking for myself, I'm very interested in what Arizona does in the next couple years because it's been 85 years since a Michigan HC has been on the sidelines of another program. I'll be interested in what RR does from here on out because of the time I spent following the guys every move for three years.

It seems to me the type of people who come to MGoBlog are very emotionally invested in both this program and its coach (so RR for a majority of the sites existence), and want to know why we went from "Peanut Butter Jelly Time" to "I Thought Real Friends Would Have Stayed". Arizona these next couple years might provide some answers, but I definitely agree that some of these threads are going to be both unnecessary and messy.

As far as I'm concerned, threads on interesting Rich Rodriguez news are not OT unless it gets out of hand.  We are in the unique position of having a Michigan head coach that was fired and is still coaching in the FBS.  By way of analogy, I don't think anyone would dispute that news on Gary Moeller would be acceptable content for the Board.  I put Rodriguez in that same category unless and until it gets to be a bit too much.  Of course, my position is always subject to change based on further instruction from senior management.

Your Moeller analogy is apt.  Moreover, the recruit in question (this was about a football recruit, wasn't it?) is a possible B1G recruit as well.

Looking carefully at this thread and similar threads, it is pretty clear that ordinary and non-inflammatory news in which Coach Rodriguez is featured become flame-threads when and only when the Rodriguez detractors turn them ugly.

if there's any new about Rich, as a former coach, I think it's fair game. But I don't know if Arizona should become the 1A program for the blog.   Because we're not talking something about Rich...it's rumors and possibilities just for the program he's at.

In your analogy, it'd be like Moeller was the coach of the Steelers (taking the Lions out of the equation), and the Steeler had a big name free agent interested in signing with them. Would that still be on topic?  Not a contract extension for Gary, or a new job, or winning the Super Bowl...just that they were negotiating with, say, Jay Cutler.

Maybe because it's still hot in people's minds it'll create some interest, but that's going to get old after awhile...

I agree with this. If people want to talk about who he hires, interviews he does, game outcomes, etc. I get that. But, are we going to double down on recruiting news on this blog? If Gary Moeller went to coach at Norther Illinois, or something like that, no one would be talking about his recruits.

Not the OP's fault. And there was some interest. (There's very little that's not offensive I'll ask to be deleted...maybe mock it, but not have it deleted).

The problem lies is confusion with actually Michigan recruits (not offers). I saw this and thought some guy I had forgotten we were in on left us for Arizona, when really, we haven't been in on him in forever (and he's not even going to Zona for sure). Hard enough to keep track of these names as it is, until you get to the point of the handful that are left and really interested (like now). 2013 recruits? Let's just say Arizona's recruiting board doesn't interest me, unless Michigan is in on that guy too.

I agree with you again - I am definitely not current on the Michigan offer list and have no interest in looking at Arizona recruiting boards either.  One poster said he was a Michigan offer so I took that as enough reason to let the thread stand.  I'm interested to see how Rodriguez gets on at Arizona and so probably give more leeway on these kinds of threads than some would prefer but, like your default position, I try to leave threads up if at all possible.

This is like the Pryor saga all over again for RR.  I predict Arizona finishes second.

(Fuller is not Pryor obviously - I don't know the kid but he cannot be Pryor.  From a personality / guardian standpoint at least.)

I think Fuller is a better passer coming out of high school than Denard was.  Getting Fuller would give Rodriguez a jump-start on turning Arizona into a contender in the Pac-12, as long as Rodriguez can get the defense in order.

I hope Rodriguez gets him...

...plus that should keep Fuller out of our hair.

Indeed, and to comport with his track record, he'll need to bring in more recruits than any other Rich Rod coach, have half of them leave school or not even qualify (look at 2010) , and then, after being a cause of half of the secondary to transfer, declare that he cannot make the schemes "any more vanilla - eventually, they just have to play."

Denard 2.0!!  No doubt that this kid would've probably been coming to UM if RR hadn't been canned.  It's gonna be exciting to see what RR can do at Arizona.  I have the best of both worlds living here in AZ.

I'd be shocked to see RichRod not go after local Arizona product DJ Foster. This is the kid that ran for 508 yards and 10 TD's in a game this year. TomVH has been hyping him for years when he was living in AZ, and he would be a perfect fit in RichRod's system. He and Fuller could be a great start to his tenure and could eventually be a Pat White, Slaton combo for the Cats.

Getting Fuller & Foster would be a major coup for RR, I hope it works out for him.  I live in Scottsdale and went to check out one of Saguaro's games, that kid is beyond the real deal.  He had some interest in UM but it obviously fizzled.  If he stays healthy, he'll be a star.  I think Oregon is in the lead for him but never underestimate some grade-A snake oil.
