I paraphrased them, the exact quote was that losing the commit "won't cause severe conniptions." So I took that to mean it wouldn't be one of our "super important" commits. But you may be onto something with the DBs.

Would they accept a commitment from him though? I mean from listening to Sam Webb, Yuri Wright seems destined to go blue and he's announcing in early January.

Chuckling at msspeedkills information though..

The Carvin Johnson transfer did open up a spot, but that's not the spot that may become available shortly - I just don't want to play the name game when it concerns an academic issue of an incoming commit that may not qualify - supposedly it isn't a big name, FWIW. Too soon to speculate. Yuri is still the #1 CB on Michigan's board by a lot...don't think this will affect his recruitment in any way. Magnus, I also thought he was purely a CB/WR but Safety keeps being thrown in there from the people I've spoken to...we'll see.

The issue of space is no longer about spots in the 2012 recruiting class but about the max number of recruits the team can take.  Michigan is pretty much at the 28 cap a year on recruits so current players leaving doesn't affect spots in the class anymore.

When the news broke on PSU, I went through their list of commits to find possible defectors.  Armani was the only guy who had previously expressed interest in Michigan.  And I think we (as a board) were kinda excited about him.

Also, the coaching staff had put some work in on him:

Steve Wiltfong -Michigan is back after Top247 ATH Armani Reeves.   via

"The Wolverines had three coaches including Brady Hoke talk with Top247 prospect Armani Reeves on Tuesday."

From the man himself (clueless at how to blockquote, so a bullet it is):

  • I'm going to put [Michigan] in the top three. Just because I like them so much that I was willing to look into what they have to offer. Pretty much everything I said before that they have academics, the whole thing with Michigan. I haven't really thought about what's next or if I'll visit any time soon yet. I don't know when I'm going to make my final decision either, this kind of changes things a little bit.

If the boy has talent, and the coaches want to fit him in somewhere, I certainly wouldn't scoff at a quality 4* commitment.

At the time Schutt was looking at Michigan, I believe we had Strobel, Brown, Godin, Wormley, and Pipkins all committed. I think we were all set at each of the positions at the time. Brown moved from a DE to TE commit to a uncommitted recruit since then. I think we're still full at DL.
