Blue Ice: The Story of Michigan Hockey - Fri Night on FSD after MSU Hockey Game

Submitted by I Bleed Maize N Blue on

Fox Sports Detroit viewers, set your DVRs.  Friday night at 10PM EST, FSD is airing Blue Ice: The Story of Michigan Hockey, based on a book of the same name by some guy named John U. Bacon.  You might want to add some extra time, as it's right after the MSU hockey game (7:30PM), which will hopefully have a better result than we've seen on Friday nights.

Blue Ice will also be repeated Saturday at noon EST, 12/14 & 15 at 2PM, 12/16 at noon, and probably others, which my TiVo isn't showing yet.

Read it for history of college athletics with Bacon.  For those who don't know much about it, it provides a lot of really neat stories about the program (some of my favorites were from the 70's).  Keep an eye out for Kermit; anyone who has read the book will know what I am talking about.

A really good book, learned a lot about Michigan hockey that I didn't know, I have to find a copy for my bookshelf...or maybe Bacon needs to do an update for the last ten years or so of hockey, update it through the Shawn Hunwick story.

You'll see me in the short segments they shot at Yost of the "mock student section."  ;)

Fantastic book.  I swear by it.  Bacon said he would add an addendum when Michigan won another National Championship.  Should've happened recently, as we all know.

The one thing wrong with my 4 years spent at Michigan is that this class was not available for me to take.  [sad face}

That said, Blue Ice the book is outstanding.  Must read for hockey fans, must read for Michigan fans.  Red's words after seeing Michigan for the first as a hockey recruit sum up Michigan and Ann Arbor perfectly.  "This Is The Place".

Those words should be chiseled into the side of Michigan's coaching Mount Rushmore, right next to "Those Who Stay Will Be Champions".

I will love the man forever (no homo).
