Sugar Bowl Pregame Party Thread

Submitted by MGoBeer on

Just got my student tickets and I'm too excited to not share.  I'm sure this info will come out over the next month but I want to talk about it now.  Which bars in NOLA will be classified Michigan bars?  Who else is going for new years? Want to organize an Mgoblog tailgate / whos going to the alumni tailgate? For the NOLA veterans, anything I need to see while I'm down there?

Party starts now.

Did anyone get a confirmation email after ordering tickets? Specifically student tickets? I hear the best NYE party is in Jackson Square until midnight, and then a march over to Bourbon Street. I hear Pat O'Briens makes a hell of a hurricane.

Edit: Just got my confirmation email 12 minutes later. Patience would've been my friend.

I haz ticketz!!! Also considered starting a thread about it!

NOLA is an awesome place..can't think of a better place to be over new years!

Bourbon street is always a good time...nice to be able to walk down the street with an open container. Just make sure you don't venture too far down it or you will start to see a lot of rainbows. Always a lot of people hanging out down by the river. Lots of cool little shops around the french quarter and canal st. Food is amazing...make sure to eat some crawfish, a po-boy, and some gator while you're there. Public transportation is pretty good, so you don't necessarily have to have a hotel right in the middle.

Gotta get back to hw, but I'll update when I think of more.

Be careful about the "don't go too far down Bourbon" meme, especially if you are worried about walking through two-ish blocks of the gay district.  Just beyond this unforsaken land, that you are too afraid to speak of, is Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop.  It is the oldest bar in the country is something you will never experience again.  The bar itself was a blacksmith shop only in name to protect it being a pub for pirates of the gulf.  It is entirely lit by candles and natural light and dates back to 1772.  I have spent many a night sitting in the back around the piano listening to a performer singing and playing the piano....unfortunately, they added a jukebox and they rawk music takes away from what the bar actually is.

P.S.: "They" are people.
