OT: For those hoping for a Valenti rant today

Submitted by lilpenny1316 on

He'll either call in sick or just rip on Michigan and how unimportant all of the other bowls are besides the Rose Bowl.  But for those who would like to dream of a rant, I give you again:

http://houserockbuilt.blogspot.com/2006/09/msu-radio-host-melts-fucking-down-on.html

I listen to this once a year, and completely forgot about it until now.  Just replace Wisky for ND and some of the older coaches/players for current guys.  I honestly feel bad to for the kids on State (minus Gholston and Worthy) but Valenti can choke on applesauce.

It's inane drivel even by Freep standards.  I liked the part about Michigan getting the Sugar Bowl bid because people have a fond remembrance of what Michigan used to be.  No dude, we went 10-2, we're back, deal with it.

Sharp has turned from a writer with a lot of potential into a disgruntled click-whore.  The dumber the statement, the more fans click, even just to disagree.  I'm proud to say that it has been a few years since I enhanced his stats by even one click.

He is still blatantly biased for MSU and totally anti-UM.  Some examples:

Sunday morning article from DS:

Even in defeat, Michigan State makes case for BCS game

This morning from DS:

Michigan didn't deserve to jump Michigan State for BCS bowl

There's a picture of Devin Gardner being chased by Marcus Rush for this last article and the caption reads:

"So Marcus Rush and Michigan State beat Devin Gardner and Michigan and went to the Big Ten title game. But U-M gets the BCS bowl?"

As his little world continues to crash down around him, one has to wonder when he will finally just have the nervous breakdown that's been building for some time now.

Note:  I just looked at the headlines.  I don't have any reason to read his sham-writing.

...from Valenti, to Drew Sharpton.

Because they are sort of one and the same.  Their shared goal is to surprise and offend and outrage just the right number of people to generate an audience-entertaining controversy.

Now, I don't make the rules at MGoBlog, but I am aware of the vague rule among the mods that they won't tolerate common threads which rant about the latest outrage published in the Freep by Sharp.  The way I see it, the Mods here have done a very fine job of allowing the (very) rare thread that takes Sharp to task when he really screws up (I think that occurs about every 6-8 weeks), and to ignore the rest of his garbage, so as to not encourage his audience.

That seems like a sensible policy to me.  Because there's almost no occasion in which Sharp opens his mouth or touches a keyboard when something really stupid fails to happen.

Last week's Sharp embarassment was his own paper's pronouncing Michigan Man Thomas Wilcher as the Freep Dream Team H.S. Coach of the Year after Sharp's August column in which he implied some severe criticism of the Cass Tech coaching that Big Will Campbell had gotten before being admitted to Michigan.  (Sharp and Mick McCabe must have some quiet hallway encounters at the Freep; McCabe was no doubt insturmental in the Wilcher choice, and he even wrote a counter-column to Sharp back in the early fall.)

Anyway, as someone who regularly scolds the Free Press (they deserve it all, and more), I have to say I support the MGoMods' carefully-employed judgment in allowing no more Sharp/Valenti threads than absolutely necessary, lest we actually give the two clowns an even larger audience.

Rather than listening to Valenti this afternoon and laughing at him, I'd suggest not listening to him at all.

You know I saw those headlines along with his thing about Suh needing more games on his suspension (which BTW, the WDFN football show they do on Wednesdays I think called him their moron of the week or something equally insulting for that) and honestly, I wonder if Drew Sharp gets up in the morning and thinks:

"What idiotic thing can I put in print today?"

It's like his idiocy known no bounds.

*sigh*

Thank god for Wojo:

On twitter, the gist of Valenti's reaction to Saturday night is "I don't reallllly care about MSU football that much and I'm done caring that much so don't even try to make fun of me or MSU because I don't care that much for realzies you guys."

Also, he continues to talk shit to Michigan fans. So he doesn't care, obviously, guys.

And as a message board, we are making a post dedicated to him? How is that better. And if you stalk his twitter or call him, than isn't you who are seeking him out. If you don't like what he says, don't acknowledge him or listen to his show.

Regardless of how big of a dick he can be, he is a fan just like us. I don't understand why people belittle him for being delusional towards his school. I know there have been times, plays, and games in which we act delusional about certain outcomes.

To be fair to Valenti (whome I hate BTW)....I've unfortunately listened, while bored, at work over the past week or so and he's been relitivly fair about it - broken system and Michigan should obviously take advantage of it and enjoy it. Also, it's all about money. I'm not sure I totally dissagree with him on this one. Sparty, in a fair world, should have gone to a better bowl than us - and last year would have simply won the big ten outright and gone to the Rose because of their record. On the flip side though - they had every opertunity to go to the rose bowl and they didn't win the game. So they have no one to blame but themselves for losing that game and can blame the system all day long for Michigan jumping them - but that's the system that is in place and they knew what would happen if they lost well before that game was played.

He plays the reasonable, even-handed card before UM/MSU games or any other big game MSU plays.  That way, if they lose, he can say no big deal or it was expected.  But once MSU wins, the douchey fan in him comes out.  I've learned not to hate him so much because I do think some of the callers are people who do not convey a reasonable thought.  But then I remember that it's talk radio and they know who to let on the air to drive ratings.

Sparty got exactly what they deserved both years.  They didn't have to play a talented OSU team last year, and this year they lost when it counted.  Michigan got better as this season went on; MSU either stayed the same or slightly regressed.  Also, MSU's blowout losses to Bama, ND, and Nebraska prove that they are merely impostors.

I have no sympathy for Sparty, nor will I ever.  Sparty and Valenti can rot in a mutual vat of bile-soaked tears.

...we got where we were on reputation. MSU had a chance to get their by earning it. They lost so I don't feel bad about them, but we don't belong in the BCS. I am glad we are there, but we got there at the expense of teams who deserved it

Having a chance to play your way into the rose bowl. The media , the team and their strange coach obsessed over this all year. It was their destiny. Or was it their destiny not to get there? All of their fans knew two weeks ago what was going to happen. Believe in your team next time. Don't start bitching a week before your game that when you lose you still had a better season. You could of, but ya didn't. It's on you.

MSU would have been in the Rose Bowl last year, yes.  But they would NOT have won the Big Ten outright.  They still would have shared with Wisconsin because both teams had 7-1 records.  Ohio State cheating took the Rose Bowl from Sparty but OSU's cheating does not take away Sparty's blowout loss to Iowa.  So they are co-big ten champs regardless of beating Wisconsin.

Everything else, I completely agree.

I read Sharp's column today about how UM doesn't deserve a Sugar Bowl bid.  To show you how much he follows football, or even bothers to look up records he claims Oklahoma had the burden of playing 13 games.  I guess he thinks Saturday was a championship game.  I think most of us put more research into a forum post than he and his editors put into his columns.

Did I hear that his daughter got a soccer scholarship to Michigan?  If true and she's attending, how can he live withhimself after being so anti-Michigan?   And he hasn't toned it down either.

I know this is unpopular  here but I still struggle to understand how a station with a 95% anti-Michigan format can survive in the Detroit market.  I know they say Sparties listen to hear us bashed and Michigan fans listen to get worked up but in a market that is dominated by our fans it's hard to believe this can go on.

It makes me sick actually becuase my kids heard some of this crap spewed from (Caputo I think--saying Hoke was a bad coach/didn't deserve the Coach of the year award ) while in a friends car the other day and they were really upset.

I know the answer is don't listen but it still works me up.

Holy cow.  If that's really true about the daughter's scholarship, then that makes him the most self-hating Michigan supporter (via tuition, anyway) whom I have ever run across.  You'd think 97.1 management would find some kind of "ying" to the Valenti yang, and offset the clear anti-Michigan bias that spews forth each week.  The debates could be lively, and fun -- even bordering on argumentative (which is good radio).  Better than the yes-man coffee bringer Foster is apparently content to be while Valenti does his thing.

Have some self-respect, T-Fos.  Grow some nads, and voice your own opinion every decade.

The Harris Poll voters and the coaches rated us higher in their polls, and 5 of the 6 computers rated us higher. That is how life goes. As Spartys have told us for years, "Quit whining."

Valenti/Sharp/Foster are asshats who try to make inflammatory remarks, have people call in/email to complain, and thus validate themselves by saying "look at our ratings!".

All of you jokers who rush off to click through the Freeps website (thus boosting their readership metrics and thus google/doubleclick ad revenue), or listen to their radio show (boosting their listenership) are padding their bottom line.  Congrats.

Don't live in Michigan anymore, but never really found much entertainment from their POS show.   Don't really know why it pisses so many people off, anyways.

I have his epic rant on my ipod.  It's fun to listen to sometimes.

"GOING 5 WIDE IN HURRICANE KATRINA"

"CHOKED ON APPLESAUCE"

Alabama sat at home and watched LSU in the conf. championship game and made it to the BCS national championship!   And MSU didn't get punished for playing in the Big Ten championship game, MSU got punished for losing the game.   Learn to live with defeat, Spartans, and you are not entitled to a BCS game because you played one more game than UM.   Also, the BCS might be more interested in MSU if they could sell out a home game and have more than two solid years of football.    Otherwise, you are no different than Houston.

Valenti is a major DB. I don't get worked up over it, I just simply press the "off" button on my radio. I'd rather listen to some Sabbath or Zeppelin.

Another problem is 97.1...they let some idiots onto the air. I know it's for ratings but Valenti gets all POd and hangs up on people. Dery and Foster have literally NO BALLS. Whatever Valenti says they just follow along like dogs on a leash. That's why I loved when Marcus Ray was in studio back in October. He's the only guy I've ever heard of stand up to that asshat Valenti.

Someone needs to put him in his place. Literally, the guy needs his ass beat one day.

\S

So sad to see him not be able to go to the Rose Bowl with his Dad.

I've long been past the point of caring what Valenti thinks whether he's happy or sad.  For a while, I did find him entertaining when he talked about non-sports related topics.  But it got to the point where I couldn't even stand the tone of his voice.  For years, he only took calls from the stupidest Michigan fans on the planet so he could paint us all in this broad stroke and Foster would just bait him with something along the lines of Mike Hart's little brother comment to set him off more.  He's a jackass and not worth my listening time.

You know what I miss?  Stoney & Wojo at 3:00 on 1130.  Wojo was a Michigan alum but not even half the homer that Valenti, Caputo and Anderson are on 97.1.
