Revised Crisler Capacity: 12,721; Stadium Bridges Replacement Project
I haven't seen anyone make note of this, but the Crisler Arena page at mgoblue.com now lists a new Crisler capacity as a result of the recently completed renovation phase: 12,721. That's a reduction of 1,030 from the previous capacity figure. More sellouts to follow?
Here's how the capacity has changed over the years:
CAPACITY: 13,684 (1967); 13,609 (1968-91); 13,562 (1991-2001); 13,751 (2001-2011); 12,721 (2011-present)
One other note for anyone who might be coming into town for basketball games or other events: The demolition and reconstruction of the Stadium bridges starts tomorrow. E. Stadium Blvd. will be closed from Monday through late 2012 (including most, if not all, of the 2012 football season). State Street will also be closed for about two weeks where those bridges pass over it, from Monday through December 13. The official detours can be found here.

Brandon is trying to figure out how to take those 1000 seats from crisler and put them on the in the big house.

What's the point of bringing the capacity down? You lose money on the MSU and OSU games where you have 1000 less people.

you make up for it with nicer facilities that will sell more every other game.

Better fan experience - will sell more tickets overall - probably at higher prices as the program keeps improving.

DTE will be doing periodic relocations in the construction area throughout various stages of the construction, so there will be other closures occasionally. I will try to keep the board informed.

If im heading south on state street towards hoover do i need i detour??

The signs say that beginning Monday State is closed from Stinson all the way up to Packard, so that would indicate that your answer is yes you need to detour. That seems an unusually wide zone to me, though...no access to the entire athletic Campus?

Is it possible the signs are referencing the official detour, and that's why they mention Packard? This press release says that State will be closed only between Stimson and Granger, which means that heading south on State you should still be able to get to Hoover.
South State Street will be temporarily closed from Stimson Street to Granger Ave. between November 28, 2011 and December 13, 2011.

Seen lots of people getting speeding tickets on Granger as I head to work. I imagine this will continue.
