Sad Face

Submitted by Coach Kyle on

Well I just got done selling my Michigan vs. ohio tickets (to a couple of Michigan fans). Why!? You ask? Because my friend is getting married at 1 o'clock tomorrow. I made sure he was well aware of the game... but his soon to be wife wasn't having any of it.

So... Sad Face is me. sad

Edit:

I just wanted to follow up. This poor couple got hammered. Multiple friends and relatives complained about the date, far more than I think they anticipated. A quote from the frustrated bride: "I am the show. You're supposed to be watching me." The obvious message here is to not get married on an important date. You WILL regret it.

They were EXTREMELY lucky that they planned the reception at 4 o'clock. I went to an Irish pub around half time and partied it up in Hale Michigan with a bunch of other random Michigan fans, and one person from ohio. Nice people.

My brother was once asked to be a groomsman for a friend's wedding that was to take place during the UofM/OSU game one year. He politely declined.

Unless you're the best man or a groomsman, going to the game and showing up at the end of the reception would have been a pretty cool move.  The friend would understand, and it would be a great opportunity for him to see how tolerant the new wifey-poo is.

Women who don't appreciate how important sports are to a man's happiness are not to be married. For all the conversations we pretend to listen to; the dumb trips to the store; the blathering about their neurotic friends, they need to understand that we are simply unavailable for a few Saturdays a year. This sets a terrible precedent.

Looks fade, but the colors maize and blue do not.

Very true. We can still go wander around J.C. Penney for 8 hours trying on the same shirt in 16 different sizes, you just have to wait until the game that is on once a week, 12 times a year, is over.  And if they drop the 'It's just a game' line, use a great quote from Jimmy Fallon in 'Fever Pitch' (slightly paraphrased)

"No, it's not just a game.  Clearly if it was just a game I wouldn't care about it THIS much."

You wouldn't schedule a wedding on Christmas, (although I'm sure some freaks have) but Christmas this year is gonna be pretty much like last year. And it'll be pretty much like next year, too.

Today is a holiday that matters. Its a new holiday every year with new implications, new situations and new hope and anticipation. Weddings on November Saturdays may as well be a slap in the face and are completely unacceptable in any situation.

I'm getting married in June.  My fiance would never make me miss The Game...

Though perhaps the perfect venue was only available tomorrow.

His wife may be angry if you had missed the wedding, but i bet she'll be more angry when you are forced to bring a radio to the ceremony to listen to the game and accidentally forget your headphones.

We had our wedding on a Friday and went to a UM game the next day. That's how it's supposed to work.

I hope all the guys are huddled around the bar TV the whole reception watching the night games, she would deserve that. I went to a wedding once during the Michigan v State game (at night) and the bride just about lost it because no one was dancing. Her dad summed it up best "Well, what the hell did you expect?"
