UM-Duke Postgame

Submitted by MGoBeer on

Thought we saw lots of good things tonight. They really shot lights out and they're almost impossibleto beat when they hit like that. I think Maui could be Burke's coming out party. What did everyone else think? Everyone else craving another liveblog?

Good game. Played a very mediocre first half, and tough to beat a top tier team when you do that. Burke has really impressed. Overall, I am very happy with the team's progress.

We dug ourselves a hole in the first half, but I think Duke could've beaten anyone tonight playing / shooting the way they did (52% from three!).  I have good feelings about this team though going forward, and Burke looks like he's getting better and better every game.

Trey Burke could be the Kemba Walker of the NCAA this year. He was relatively unknown until Maui.

I was really pleased with UMs performance today and hope we can secure third place tomarrow.

I took out of this game that Tim needs to have someone else create his shot...not quite the offensive god I envisioned...Kinda goes with the idea that his plan is to stay for three years...

I also took out of this game an immense hatred toward Kelly

Duke usually isn't going to shoot anywhere near a 65% eFG% (or whatever they ended up with) taking the shots they were taking.  On a lot of nights that game ends up a win for Michigan.

They should be a major factor in the Big 10 this year.

Duke had an answer for every shot we put down and quashed much hope of any comeback.  Hats off to Duke, but after evaluating both games, our season and our future looks realy bright.  Very proud of this team's no quit attitude, long season still ahead so lets go blue!

I didn't get to watch it but it seems to Burke is going to be awesome. 17 pts and 9 assists vs #6 Duke and 14 pts and 4 assists vs #8 Memphis. If we're going to go far this year, it seems like we might live and die by Burke

Duke was getting some calls early.....  They seem to get away with going over the back on a lot of rebounds but, overall, fouls were getting called both ways.  If not for having to foul them at the end, Duke would have finished with more total team fouls.  The discrepency at the stripe was to be expected.

Key stat...... Michigan out rebounded Duke.  That's impressive.

I won't pace around the family room with a stern look over this one. The guys played hard, it's early in the season, and we saw a lot of things in this game that are definite positives.

Its too bad we cant capitalize on opportunities.  Fergodsakes make horford put on 40 lbs or tell him to not post up and tell Smotty hes not allowed to dribble or for that matter touch the ball unless hes wide open for a three.

9 assists out of Trey Burke, 6-7 and 12 points from Jordan Morgan and some aggressive play against a Duke frontline

I think Burke will be Big Ten rookie of the Year and in contention for 2/3rd team All Big Ten, and if Jordan keeps this up with Hardaway giving us his 15-ish pts/game and actual bench production....We can be really good THIS YEAR is what I'm saying

This looks like a 4-6 seed with more potential if Smotrycz can figure out what to do with his skill set.  Get hot from outside in a one and done situation and they can make some serious noise.  With a guy we can post next year and Morgan's quality minutes off the bench?  Sky's the limit.

I'm excited.

I thought both Morgan and Smotrycz did some nice things yesterday, but I was especially impressed with Morgan.  I thought he looked very comfortable taking the ball at the Plumlees -- that baseline spin-reverse in the second half was particularly nifty, coming against one of the more imposing bigs in college basketball.  I also think that the frontcourt of Morgan and McGary will complement itself nicely -- we see that Morgan can score on the block against anyone, and McGary can do a lot from the high post/wing.

Ya, I thought they both played well. Smotrcz only played 12 minutes as he was in foul trouble, so that seemed to make it tough for him to get in a rythm. I thought he hung in their besides that. Morgan had a couple of plays were I thought he had good post position against Duke but Burke didn't feed him the ball. Maybe Beilein just didn't have the confidence to have Morgan take Duke's defenders but, if not, once Burke gets more comfortable feeding the ball to his teammates then Morgan might get a few more chances. All in all it wasn't too bad. Duke was lights out shooting the ball and just dominated us the first half for the most part with some great defense and a few missed open shots on our part. Officiating was too bad. DIdn't like the last call on Novak, but that might just be my philosophic difference with basketball officiating.

I like the way the team looks so early in the season (against the likes of teams not named Towson and WIU).  In Iowa I haven't been able to see the first 3 games but after Memphis and Duke I am pleased (and somewhat surprised) to see how well the team plays together; this starts with the Freshman point guard.  As mentioned already Duke wasn't losing to anyone tonight.  Duke was able to build leads up to 15 pts and the way the Michigan team responded was awesome.  They didn't get down and lose faith, they were still out to win the damn ballgame (coach Beilein helps with thes of course).

All in all great early season test(s) to build this team into an all-around contender.

(note: Duke also looks like a great.  Can't wait to see battles between them and UNC this year)

Duke is a really good team and they shot lights out tonight. If we played them again, I doubt that they'd shoot so well and I think that we'd come out with the win. I'd like to see us shoot better though.

Definitely thought we would feel the loss of Morris a lot more and take time to gel as a team.  Burke is legit right out of the gate.  At this point it looks like we can expect a performance much like last year's only without the early season struggles.  Hopefully the fellas can keep it up.

Thought it would take some time for this team to gel together -sans Darius Morris- like the way they were at the end of last year.  it's great to see Burke step right in and control the point.  Yes, he makes a few bad decisions and turns the ball over at times but overall, and considering how early it is, I love how this TEAM looks.

It looks like Horford and Christian will need another year of seasoning until they will be able to provide quality minutes off the bench. We have to keep Smotz and Morgan out of foul trouble this year.
