Does anyone else think these rumors are just a tad bit fishy? I mean, I can see how this would work out...if Ohio doesn't get serious NCAA sanctions.

But is Meyer the kind of guy who, like Lane Kiffin, will want to coach a team with reduced scholarships who is banned from bowl games for several years? I don't think so.

The ruling comes in late November/early December, right? My guess is if it's bad, he declines; but if it's not too bad, an announcement comes pretty quickly.

For this to be true then Ohio would have had to have contacted all schools involved to ask permission to interview the coaches. If they had done that then we would've heard about it. So I put no creditibility in the assistant coaches. I also have a heard time with Urban going to a university that will be getting a bowl ban and reduction in scholarships. Especially if those figure are anywhere close to true. With that much money Ohio will be looking to win know.

Why get so excited about Meyer. He has never beaten Michigan, at Utah or Florida, and the one year he destroyed OSU, Mattison was his DC. I say, bring it on. Urban Meyer, most overrated coach in CFL.

I can't create threads but Aldophus Washington committed to OSU today per press conference.

One telling thing that applies to this thread though is that Washington thinks he will be playing for Meyer rather than Fickell. Wouldn't that be a recruiting violation if Urban hasn't been officially hired or publicly hired? Obviously, ashington isn't saying Urban is or isn't hired but you can't recruit until it is announced correct?

a force, but that was Mountain West.

Now, lets look at Florida.

He won his first championship with mostly his predecessors players, not to diminish it, but those weren't his guys. He did get Tebow, but I think anyone would get the hometown boy to go to Florida. Without Tebow he would not have that second championship.

And since that second championship, they have gone down hill with HIS players running the show.

He's a hometown guy, decent coach, but he's no savior. The Columbus police will be busier than ever now. OVERRATED IMO.

This argument is lunacy. He has won everywhere he has been...Florida, Utah, and Bowling Green for god sakes. It doesn't matter how you do it, you just need to win. We hired hoke when all he had for coaching experience was SDSU and Ball state...

Urban was a great coach. Is he still remains to be seen, but at least give him his due

Said I wasn't diminishing the championships.... but I don't believe he's as good as people think. I do think he's got a perfect QB for his system in Miller, so he will have success pretty quickly, but too many worriers out here. OSU was going to get a big name coach no matter what, and Urban is that...and he'll win a lot, but I doubt no more than any other top coach they would bring in. Hopefully they get slammed more by the NCAA than they think they are, which would put a damper on his initial success, but there should be some nice battles down the road to look forward to.

I don't understand the doubters...the non-denial denial on the Neb. telecast was all I needed to hear after the catagorical denials previously issued by Meyer about other open jobs to tell me that this deal was going to happen. I'd say it is pretty clearly being leaked to have an influence on recruits and deflect fans from the potential beat-down coming up this Saturday (please, please...).

I'll be honest...not so excited about this. Meyer is a great coach with great success at every stop. Does it panic me? No, since it is hard to imagine any coach having more dominance over us than Tressel did, so anything different is better. However, I sure would have been happier with Luke Fickel or some other middling guy for a while as we get on our feet. YMMV.

There's way too much chatter from multiple different places for the Urbie to OSU rumor not to be likely true, but the 7 years / $40 MM detail is either wrong or reeks of panic. Meyer had three or four very good years at Florida, but his last year was mediocre at best. He was having trouble competing with Bama once Saban got fully established there and even the LSU and Auburn programs were in better shape than Florida's by the time Urbie left Gainesville.

Also, Urbie has shown no ability to run a pro style offense, so either he plans to bring his spread to Columbus or he comes with a big question mark as to how succesful he will be running a pro style team. I'm not among the naysayers that claim a spread cannot work in the B10, but if he converts Ohio to a spread that should make it easier for Michigan to recruit elite level Ohio kids who want to play in a pro style offense.

Why would OSU pay nearly $6 MM per year for this? If true, it's probably just Gee and Smith trying to save their jobs with a high profile hire. It also reminds me of the Charlie Weis 10-year deal at ND. Just like Charlie, if Urbie isn't dominating Michigan and winning national championships by year two, the $40 MM price tag is going to look pretty stupid.

I'm not afraid of him, but I think you all are overlooking his ability. He's succeeded at every stop. He recruits very well and will certainly be a tough force to recruit against in Ohio.

Bottom line is, if he gets a good staff and star coordinators, Ohio will remain a strong program. If Miller learns to throw, they have the talent around him to be formidable in the future. I think Hoke vs Meyer would be great for the rivalry though

Urban himself said "I have not been contacted and I have not accepted any job." While he was calling the Michigan game. I think it would be dumb to take a job before NCAA ruling anyway. I think he has it made doing what he is doing anyway. Bucknut's are a bunch of fags anyway, who are just trying to get the fan base excited before a game where they are gonna get destroyed ! GO BLUE !!!

JimBobTressel

wrong. he said I haven't been offered any job. and he hadn't accepted any job.

read between the lines. they were still in talks at that point.

also If you watch sportscenter, ESPN broke it a while ago that they were in talks about the OSU coaching position.

Those who don't want Urban at OSU should simply fan the fact that OSU -- a team in deep shit with the NCAA -- wants to hire a coach that had something like 45 players arrested during his last few years in Florida. (See USA Today, SI, ESPN.) Urban ran something close to a rogue program in Florida. How can anyone explain that away? How would hiring Urban say "We want a coach who runs a clean ship?" It's sickening.

Same guy who quit to be with family (quit AS Florida was not in the spotlight - made announcement before BCS Champ game, quit to BE WITH FAMILY), then came back after not consulting w that same family, came back and led Florida to an 8-4 season to then quit AGAIN, again when Florida wasn't in the spotlight, this time for health reasons, who then continued to take a job w/ESPN, traveling all over the country working long hours, not spending time w/his family, not resting as he said he needed

Sounds like a perfect fit for that school in ohio

Until it is official it is just talk.

The dude has health issues. What make you think that won't re-occur at OSU?

I think Meyer is tempted to take the job because it is a dream job for him, but if his health issues were as serious as suggested he won't be long for OSU.

This is good news for the rivalry. We want a good team down south that plays within the guidelines of the NCAA. This is good for football and good for Michigan!

especially when they're program is in shambles. Didn't they fire EARL BRUCE a couple days before the UM game (eons ago)? They know they might lose and lose bad, so let's start making excuses and distractions....classy.

I doubt he will agree to any contract with OSU until after the sanctions are announced. If they include bowl bans, he will probably broadcast for another year or two. Eventually he may coach OSU.

I say BRING IT!!!

I want OSU to be dominant...it'll make MSU and PSU weak. We'll only have to deal with one team outside of Nebraska every year and that's Ohio. For all the marbles like it should be.

I really am not worried about this at all. In fact It would be good for Michigan if Meyer is actually hired becuase it makes Ohio State relevant in light of its sanctions. We have an elite coaching staff with Hoke, Mattison etc. and Meyer at OSU could make this rivalry as interesting and intense as it has ever been. I would also not worry too much about recruiting because recruiting is all about relationships with high school coaches and players and Hokes staff is, from all accounts, as good in that area as there is. Another thing to keep in mind is that historically, whether in business or in sports, hiring all star exec or coaching staffs is not always the right answer. Its often the staff that is the best fit and most committed to their institutions that are the most successful. I think we win there.

Was this posted by an ohio fan? Cause seriously, this is the kind of post I would make if I was making a point about how unimpressive the new staff was.

My only feeling is relief if this is the case.

The Urban to OSU hiring is the worst kept secret in the history of Earth. The job will be open next Monday or Tuesday, and they will be trotting Urban out during the Duke basketball game .

ESPN is putting him in the studio this weekend instead of the booth calling the game for goodness sakes. That should tell you that there is a conflict of interest right there.

markusr2007

That has to be the most underwhelming staff list ever. An eleven year old OSU fan could think of a far better group in about 20 seconds.

If Urban Meyer becomes the head coach, then OSU will be shelling out way more dough for far more pricey assistants (after thorough background checks and legal fees of course).

Too bad about Mullen and Strong though.

Seriously. Who gives a crap if Urban gets hired by OSU? So what? Have we gotten so bad that they define our reaction to events? Holy shit guys. Lighten up.

Really there are still people out there that think osu is gonna get hit with severe sanctions? 3 year bowl ban ? Come on your just making yourself look like an idiot for saying that. Anyone who believes thats will be disapointed because its not gonna happen
