OT: Better College QB - Tebow or Vince Young?

Submitted by Victors5 on

Having an argument with my roomate right now while watching Vince on Sunday Night Football. Just wanted to hear Mgoblog's opinion on this. Who was a better college QB Tim Tebow or Vince Young?

At least he could run a system.  Vince Young was an improvisor, I'm not sure he could read a defense.  AS much as I don't like the Tebow persona, he was a great college QB and the kid plays with a ton of heart.  Still, he'll never win a Super Bowl at QB.

Tebow and it's not even close. Their numbers may be similar but Tebow did it in the SEC. Vince Young was in a very weak Big 12 most of those years.

No way in hell Texas with tebow would've beaten USC that year. The year Texas f$&ked us if they Had tebow we would've won. Vince young was a phenomenal college player, top 20 list I'd might add!

Best season? Young. Which one scared me most as a player at the height of his career? Definitely Young.

Tebow started to play at a high level in his sophmore year, his first year as a starter, and kept it up for the rest of his career. Young struggled passing for most of his first two years as a starter* and didn't really learn to throw until he was a junior. Young also left after his junior year, which means he ended his career playing only one year at a high level.

Young's career stats

Tebow's career stats

*Except for that damn Rose Bowl game.

But Vince Young was by far the most dominant player of his era on offense.  Tebow did a lot, and both had a ton of talent around them, but Vince Young scared me a lot more than Tebow did.

That tebow did it in the sec, you put Vince young in the SEC in his prime he would've run shit. I might add that USC (he played in the NC) team would f$&k up bama or lsu right now.

Tebow. Not even close. Young's best passing year would be equal to Tebow's fifth best. Just look at the stats (thanks befuggled). There aren't many players from any era that I would take over Tebow.

At first I immediately thought Tebow, then I remembered the two Rose Bowls that Vince played in.  Such a tough question, but I would have to go with Vince Young.  His arm and his athletecism were just too fun to watch for me to go otherwise.

Here's a question that me and my roommate had the other day- Who was better in their NC year, Cam Newton or Vince Young?  Newton had better numbers  and played in the SEC, so i would have to give it to him, but god was Young fun to watch. Your thoughts?

if you're asking michigan fans...we saw both in bowl games...and vince young was 10 times better in that game.

both looked pretty damn good when i watched them passively in NC games that didn't involve us.  but neither really seperated.

so i'd go with young.

but vick was still better than both.

Vince Young was one of the best I've ever seen. Remeber also Devin Gardner and Phillip Sims (backup at 'Bama) were both the next Vince Young. I haven't heard anybody referred to as the next Tim Tebow, because Tebow was just Vince Young lite.

For a career, pretty clearly Tebow.

For peak value, definitely Young.

And I think if you swap them, Texas wouldn't have been as good, but Florida would have been as good or better with Young.

Not even close in my mind. As others have said, Tebow's career numbers are better, but take each at their prime and I'd *much* rather face Tebow.
