Nebraska Postgame Presser Transcript: Lloyd Carr Comment Count

Heiko

Lloyd Carr

Opening remarks: “This is a little nicer press room than I remember.”

What’s it like being at a postgame press conference? “It’s exciting. It’s exciting to be down on the field at the end of the game. I told Dave Brandon before the game, before the ceremony -- you look around that stadium, and there’s no place in the world like it. To see such a great effort, a total team effort today, a great victory over an outstanding football team was a great day.

Can you comment on the play today? “Well I agree with whatever coach Hoke says. But that was fun. I was hoping on fourth down down there that we would go for it. He sent the field goal team in and ran that fake. I thought that was a big, big play in the game. It was well executed. And there were lots of good plays -- kicking game, defense -- outstanding game. Scored a lot of points.”

Talk about the job Brady Hoke has done to get this team to a 9-2 record. “Well I think it’s remarkable. Any transition is about finding out a lot of things that you don’t know about your players, and the players finding out about the coaches. But I think, when I look at that team today, they’ve consistently played very good defense, and I think the transition offensively has been good. When you realize we’re two losses, both of which we had chances to win -- I don’t think you could ask the coaching staff and a team to do a better job than this team has done. This is just wonderful to see. I mean, you talk about every phase of the game … what I look at is the intensity with which they play. They’ve given up very few big plays this year, and here we go into the last game of the season with a lot to play for and great momentum. This team has started to believe in itself. Coming back here today, that crowd was outstanding, and they’ll be outstanding again next week.”

The fifth year seniors were players you recruited and were on the team during your last year. Did you get a chance to talk to them after the game? “Well I have run into a few of them during this season. I’ve just tried to tell them how proud of them I am, what they’ve done. They persevered. On any team your senior leadership is a critical issue, so I think it speaks to what those kids have done this year. It’s been exciting to watch them.”

Do you miss being on the sideline? “Yeah. Yeah. When you’re part of a great victory, there’s nothing like it. But I’m so happy for Brady and the staff and the players, because Michigan football is -- we’re where we want to be.”

Did you get any jabs from the Nebraska fans about the ’97 championship during your tribute? “The tribute -- and I’ve said this and it’s true, if you coach at a place like Michigan with great tradition -- and the players that played for me were outstanding players but great people and people who were unselfish who put the team first. That’s how a coach gets selected for the hall of fame. That’s certainly my case. I had great, great players and great, great people.”

(Ed: If you were wondering, the answer is no, Lloyd did not answer the question)

A lot has been said of “Michigan football.” Did today feel like Michigan football is back? “Yeah I think it was a loud statement. Great defense. I’ll tell you, that’s what I expected from a Nebraska team. They’ve always been a very very physical team, played great defense, run the football. But as I looked at this game, that’s a hard-hitting football team … it was what you want to see in a football team from the standpoint of our performance.”

Prediction for next week? “Whatever Brady says.”

[Hoke will be up shortly. Players tomorrow morning.]

Lloyd Carr has an MGoBlog presence. I'm convinced of it. He pays someone to monitor when people talk about and has them mark it "flamebait" and "trolling" if it's anything less than gushing. The money is almost as well spent as UM paying him $400,000 a year to gossip with his buddies about RR.

EDIT: Hi, Lloyd!

There obviously is a concerted effort by Lloyd himself and a small cabal of Lloyalists who want to silence the Truth from being spoken! They read through all the threads on MGoBlog and ensure that nothing negative is spoken. Simplest explanation prevails.

Or, perhaps, people disagree with you and rather than responding to every smug, redundant thing you post they just downvote you.

3&Out basically said LC wasn't all in for RR. Ask yourself this: were you? You certainly can make the argument he should have been (3&O did by rehashing the Bo transition) but consider what LC should have done if he truly believed RR was destructive to the Michigan brand. His job, both as assistant AD and simply as a Michigan Man was to preseve the brand into the future, and if he thought undercutting RR was the way to do that, can anyone say he was wrong?

Whether RR was going to be fired was the great debate of last fall / winter.  It ended up that the anti-RR crowd was right when DB dropped the hammer. Then to add insult to injury, the new coach comes in and crushes every aspect of his head coaching job (recruiting, media, alumni, coordinator hiring, on field performance, etc).  To add even MORE insult to injury, they have taken spread pieces and molded a hybrid that has scored MORE POINTS in conference than RR's "offensive masterpiece."  In my eyes, Borges is the offensive genius for taking a less than ideal situation for his past experience and creating an offense that can drop 45 on NEBRASKA!!!!

RR was right...Michigan football was close to turning the corner. All it needed to do was hire Brady Hoke.

After watching the MSU and Iowa game, I am not ready to give Borges the "Genius" tag by any means. I do think he has done an excellent job overall, as the entire team has done an excellent job overall. I am not sure why you are so interested in seeing this years success in terms of "adding insult" to "injured" supporters of RR. Seems like people who would see it that way are the kind of people who divide the fan base. How about everyone enjoys the victory Our Beloved Heroes achieved? Kthx.

There were a few that espoused the genious of Al Borges for keeping the black shirts guessing the entire game.

Speaking of the blackshirts, one of the more humorous lines was, "Don't be so hard on the blackshirts, they're doing the best that they can.  It's just too bad they aren't doing the best that Michgan does."

In response to a comment, UM wasn't ready to turn the corner. The D was going to be better with the same coaching staff. These kids would've tuned out the former DC. They saw the results of three years of bad schemes. I'm as shocked as all UM fans with the turnaround of this team. The credit goes to the staff for changing the culture and the kids for believing in the change for the better. Go Blue and beat the Browneyes.

Twelve years as a HC and I don't recall Carr ever being successfully baited during a post game presser, so is anyone shocked that he deflected questions about 1997?  I'm not, and I'm not surprised that he took the opportunity to key on the word "Tribute" to answer the question he really wanted to answer but nobody would ask, what the Tribute meant to him?

As for the PC presser, I'm not surprised by it and wouldn't be surprised to learn that there had been ground rules put in place.  The truth has already been written and everybody that had any questions about 3&Out already knew the truth as written in the gospel according to John.  There is not one question that could have been asked that wouldn't have been an affirmation.  If Carr agreed with John the Bacon, afirmation.  If Carr didn't agree, he would be known as  a liar, thus affirmation.  And if Carr chose not to answer his silence would again be known as affirmation of The Gospel.

I don't know all the facts behind the three lost years and at this point I really don't care.  What I do find amusing is that annonymous voices have made allegations which have been slurped up by a certain faction, the irony of which they themselves can't fathom that there might be an ulterior movtive for those allegations.

Carr was briefly a defensive backs coach at WVU while Rodriguez was playing HS football in WV.  A question I would like to hear asked at some point somewhere is whether Carr had a hand in evaluating Rodriguez's potential as a college player.  Obviously that would have been out of context on Saturday.
