Coach wants you in your seats early

Submitted by Bodogblog on

I am unable to embed, and for this I should be negged.  But there's going to be a special tribute to Lloyd Carr before kick-off for Nebraska.  Also, rally towels.  He'd like you to be there at 11:45

Looks to me as if Hoke was about to crack up laughing in the beginning there. I'll be in my seat at 11:45 sharp. Hoping for a great start to Thanksgiving week back in the Mitten.

Ideally coach should want you there at noon.  That way you are the most drunk you can be, and thus the loudest you will be during the game.  Showing up early is a waste of prime tailgating time, imo.

There are a lot of hidden benefits to showing up early.  You meet the other die-hards, and it gets to be a good hang-out time.  Also, showing up 30-40 minutes early at Yost for 4 years got me the chance to meet Rich Rod (back when that was exciting) and to chat with Jack Johnson's dad regularly while passing out papers for people to hold up during the announcement of the line-ups.  Wouldn't have missed showing up early for much of anything.

Better thought - my time is valuable and if I'm still there in time to see the entire game, why the f*** does it matter?

Seriously if someone can tell me this, I will retract my statement.  They are telling the kids to get their early so they will ideally get there a little before noon.  I am just stating the obvious.

You can gather your friends on Dec. 3, have them all wake up early, get a keg, dance around to Don't Stop Believing till as late as you want (make sure to get the people with student tickets to get to the Iowa St game though). You're telling me your drinking time is valuable? You can drink any other day of the week as late as you want. How often do you get to see Michigan play? Show up early and show support for your team. By getting there early you're showing your team and the country that Michigan fans care about Michigan football. And plus, how often does your plan of arriving right at kickoff actually work? That Purdue game was an embarrassment.

You can show up to your tailgate an hour early as well as leave an hour early to go to the game. Also, let's make some noise. This isn't purdue (Not that it should matter), but seriously. I'll probably yell at both pussy students and wine and cheese alums if they aren't screaming their heads off while we're on defense.

Glad I'm not responsible for cleaning up the stadium afterward.  I'll have to hold the cards up for the people in front of me too probably.  It's amazing - they time it so they come in right at kick off every time.  I really like all the pre-game stuff myself.  Go Blue!

It is so sad that fans need to even be TOLD to be on time. No one should be late. The only legitimate excuses are having to buy beer and Reese's Cups.

Hoping thanksgiving weekend is no excuse for the place to be filled up with almost all MICHIGAN fan 15 minutes before kickoff ROCKIN, and barely any ugl yscarlett  red ohio fans.

I'm a little surprised that none of the first 24 commenters seems to be at all conflicted about the idea of participating in a Lloyd Carr tribute right now.  I won't be in attendance on Saturday, but if I were going to be, I know I would be doing some soul-searching to decide whether I'm ready to even do so much as hold up a piece of card stock to honor a guy who couldn't bring himself to do one interview to try and keep his team from hitting rock-bottom in a historic way, a few years ago.

Seriously - nobody?

Just as Rich Rodriguez was not the nefarious hillbilly intent on destroying Michigan traditions the way so many alleged, neither is Lloyd Carr the personification of evil incarnate that others say he is. Carr didn't cover himself with glory during the last three years, but he's also done quite a bit for the university in addition to the football side of things. Like anybody else, Lloyd has his strengths and weaknesses, but I don't see any point in the continued bashing of either RR or LC.

In terms of the damage done to the program, and to RR individually, I believe whatever Carr did, or did not do, pales in comparison with the actions of Michael Rosenberg and Mark Snyder.

It is hard not to feel a little negative towards Carr.  And I was a big fan of his, I even have a picture standing with him when I ran into him at the Detroit Auto Show a few years back.  He definitely did a lot for Michigan football, the University and several prominent charities in the Ann Arbor area but he also chose not to help RR for some reason so I understand the idea of being conflicted.

For some reason, any opposing view on this site now gets marked flamebait so I guess this will as well, even though I am an alumn, a long time season ticket holder and lifelong M fan.

I appreciate the effort you took to unhide my question and respond to it instead of just trying to throw an additional Flamebait on the pile.  I agree about the deadness of the RR horse and although I am honestly still trying to decide how I feel about him, I generally wouldn't bring LC up on the MGoBoard either if he weren't actually involved in the news at hand.

I'm still hoping to get John U. Bacon to share some of his feelings on LC going forward (at the Columbus AAUM book signing next week), but I'll definitely take your Carr vs. Freep (et al.) perspective into account.

It's not exactly crazy talk to suspect that Rosenberg and Snyder could not have written that article without help from Carr and his cronies.

Carr probably isn't evil incarnate, but he's not really the best guy either. It's sad what he did to his own legacy here. Bacon admired him at one time and clearly thinks there was something a bit rotten after connecting the dots.

. . . honor a guy who couldn't bring himself to do one interview to try and keep his team from hitting rock-bottom in a historic way, a few years ago.

This is completely untrue. One example: Carr sat in with Beckmann and Brandstatter for an extended period during the Penn State game in 2009 and had nothing but positive things to say about Rodriguez. Brian himself mentioned this interview in this column, and he included the following quote from a Chengalis article about Carr's appearance:

"Rich is a young guy, (and) he's got a great background for such a young guy," Carr said during his interview with Frank Beckmann and Jim Brandstatter. "What we're seeing here offensively throughout this season is a great thing for the future of Michigan football.

"The transition a year ago you could expect (the struggles) because what they were looking for in a quarterback. Certainly what we have here is exciting. I'm excited for the future." …

"I've had a lot of conversations with Rich Rodriguez down through the last 18, 20 months, and I told him from the beginning if he needed me for any reason, just call me," Carr said. "I did not want to be a coach who's at practice and hanging around and answering questions from the media about what I saw. I didn't think that was good for Rich or our program."
I'd be curious to know whether or not Bacon mentions this interview and Carr's positive comments in his book.

From my read, the book paints Carr as being essentially absent after being initially a negative when he was supportive of players transferring.

Even living through it, I cant personally recall Carr coming out and being supportive although I also dont recall anything negative.  As a fan, I feel like he could have done more.
