OT - Penn State Abuse Cover-up?
This might be a story to keep an eye on. Lots of conjecture and jumping-to-conclussions in the article, but does seem fishy in light of recent allegations. Probably has no NCAA implications, but can't be good for recruiting.

Allegations of improper conduct with an underage male first surfaced in 1998, while Sandusky was still employed by Penn State. That incident allegedly occurred in a shower at Penn State's on-campus football facility. No charges were filed.
Sandusky retired the next year, in 1999. He was 55, prime age for a coach. Odd, to say the least - especially with Joe Paterno thought even then to be ready to quit and Sandusky a likely, openly-discussed successor.

But nothing will come of this. That would be a criminal issue, not an NCAA issue, anyway. It's likely that nothing illegal happened, but perhaps something questionable, and for all parties involved, the guy was "encouraged" to retire.
Hansen went to MSU, so he was wrong at least once. It also explains his need to be constantly surrounded by perves.
Didn't state consider hiring him back when they decided on hiring Saban? I seem to remember that they did consider Sandusky, but were concerned that they would essentially be giving him head coach training so he could replace Paterno.

There is nothing to this. These allegations are from the time that I was there. I met him and the rest of the coaching staff many times (sans Paterno) since I worked at the Ice Pavillion and that's where their mail was delivered. Most all of them were nice people with the exception of Larry Johnson.
At the time, all of Paterno's staff was getting old(er) and PSU was obviously on the decline leg of its 5-year boom/bust cycle. It was the first time that I can remember people openly talking about it being time for him to retire. Within a few years of Sandusky leaving two other longtime staff members of defense left as well (Sarra & Williams).
His leaving was nothing other than a changing of the staff and philosophies. He was/is also very involved in Second Mile a charity he started himself in the 1970's to help disadvantaged children be successful in life.
Stories like this are why I was never alone with a player when I coached youth sports and always made sure that another adult/coach was present.
glad to know that the mail for one of college football's historic programs does not get delivered to the same building as their offices.

Obviously, innocent until proven guilty and all that jazz, but the second allegation seems completely unrelated to the first. You have to start to wonder when there are two allegations of inpropriety, especially when the first allegation received little to no publicity.

My only memories of Jerry Sandusky:
1. 1997 Judgment Day: Chris Howard scores on a 28 yard to put us ahead 31-0. The camera shows Sandusky on the sideline looking like he wants to cry. Then Bob Griese says, "Jerry Sandusky cannot believe it."
2. 1999: Sandusky's last home game. PSU students are holding up banners honoring him and saying how much they will miss them. The Lions lead 27-17 in the 4th quarter. The stadium is going nuts. Then Tom Brady ruins the party by leading the good guys to 2 touchdown scores. Larry Foote recovers a Kevin Thompson fumble and the game is over. We win 31-27. As the final seconds tick off the clock, Sandusky again looks like he wants to cry. Brent Musberger says, "Jerry Sandusky's final game at Beaver Stadium is an unhappy one."
(Wolverine fans who made the trip had to be subjected to that stupid ass, "We are...Penn State" chant all day. With the game in hand, they retaliate with, "We are...Michigan!")

Unfortunately, RR screwed up our streak vs. PSU, big-time. And we aren't playing them next year.
For my money, the proper response to "We are...Penn State!" Is "We own...Penn State!" At least it was until we stopped beating them every year. We yelled that until I was hoarse after the famed "Branch KOs Morelli" White Out game.
I prefer "You are....Our Bitch" in response.
alerting the board to the allegations is great, but posts can only be speculative, and therefore invite abuse.
When people in authority abuse it to harm kids. . . the worst. But such allegations, if untrue, can--equally--ruin lives. Will be interesting to see what comes of this.

I heard Sandusky isn't allowed within 500 feet of schools and Chucky Cheeses.
The only abuse at PSU as far as I know is the team has to take turns deciding who changes Paterno's depends.
