Playcalling gets tougher when the opposing defense gets to commit interference.  That was the third time this game Roundtree was hit before the ball came.  It's unbelievable that none drew a flag.  (Well, one did, before being picked up.)

Look, I have no problem with people being mad about the refs.  They blew two very important calls IMO.  I thought it was a TD and I thought it was PI.  However, writing to Delany and telling him you are upset about the refs does nothing.  It's basically saying "I'm mad and I want everyone else to know about it!"  Will it make you feel better when he replies (if he replies at all) with "I'm sorry, but in that situation our refs are faced with difficult judgement calls and we stand by them."  This isn't a punch where a player gets suspended.  The refs aren't going to get suspended for deaming a TD not conclusive and for missing a judgement call late in the game, even if they are wrong.

Complain all you want here, that's fine and that's part of what this board is for.  But taking it further just makes us as a Michigan fan base look petty.  And when something happens that is actually worthy of people writing and asking someone of something, it actually makes it seem worth while for them to read, rather than thinking "oh, it's just these fans complaining about something...again...like always."  Don't be that fanbase.  Don't embarass Michigan and its fanbase like that.  Don't bring our fanbase to the level that no one will take us seriously when we have something that is worthy of filing complaint.  The refs were wrong, the people in charge will see that, but nothing can/will be done.  The refs aren't going to change the call or make up for it next game.  The last thing we need is for refs to hear all of us bitching and complaining to their boss, have them hate us because of a bunch of people annoyling complain, and have things like this happen more often.  I'm pissed off too but pick your battles so that we don't all look like idiots.

Weren't you the a$$hat that all but gave up at the beginning of the 4th quarter? It was as you said,

This game is over. Way to get the team motivated Hoke. Borges, just pack your shit and leave

That sounds like you stopped watching the game and pouted in the corner...so why are you bitching about the officiating?

quote btw if from page 6 of the open thread

We need to pick this game apart play by play for every missed call, bad spot, and all the crap in this game. Then start a petition, get enough signatures and send it to ESPN, the NCAA, and the B10....

I want an explanation for this, these people are paid way too much money for this crap.

Sure.  Excuses.  However, Hemingway had that TD with 7 seconds left.  We have a chance to tie it up after that.  All you need is one play and we had that play robbed from us twice in the last 10 seconds.  I love excuses when they're correct.  Also, I'm very, very bitter.

I agree that we didn't play that well.  But Iowa didn't play any better.  They were outgained, surrendered seven more first downs and allowed us to convert 7 of 12 third downs.   They got one of their two takeaways after interfering with Roundtree.  They were bailed out on a deep ball by interfering with Roundtree.  They got a "defensive stop" at the end of the game after 1) somehow getting a legit TD ruled incomplete and 2) interfering with Roundtree.

All year, we've been talking about how the Big Ten is full of flawed teams. Well, today you saw two of those teams meet. Both of them made mistakes and both put up similar stat lines. But  one team got screwed multiple times in the red zone by the officials in a one score game.

It was a close game that the referees helped decide in Iowa's favor. Sometimes the excuses are real. End of.

P.S. I believe that Roundtree deep ball in the second quarter, Denard fumbled two plays later. So had the proper call been made, more than likely that turnover - which along with the other, people have been pointing to as reasons why we deserved to lose - doesn't happen.

Keep in mind that the line in Vegas was Iowa +4 all week, even though, reportedly, Michigan was getting a load of action.  It never budged.  When the refs are this bad, you might want to follow the money.

that because Michigan played badly, those penalties wouldn't have affected the outcome of the game?  Given another play, even the worst team has an opportunity to put it in the endzone.

People who use this logic baffle me.

Hemingway had already scored even before the last play? Knee in bounds and the ball didn't move when it was shown from the reverse camera angle. It was a clearly a td.

And it wasn't so much poor play as poor playcalling, Borges tried to make this a an i-formation team for three quarters and called a very predictable game. He didn't seem to adjust at all until the last two or three offensive possessions.  They started moving the ball when they spread it out, but it was already too late.

However, that doesn't excuse the officials. People can talk about how UM didn't deserve to win all they want, but the fact of the matter is they made the plays in the 4th quarter to give themselves a chance to  at least tie, and the refs fucked them on that last possession. Not to mention the pass interference in the first half that  was overturned for what seemed like no reason.

OH MAN, LOOK AT THIS GUY!  You're so cool, you don't care if your team wins or loses.  I love not showing any emotion, or anyone else being disappointed.  You should tell everyone how stupid their passion for football is.

when someone is complaining about a bad call in the 2nd or 3rd quarter that they think "swung momentum." It doesn't work nearly as well when they blow 2 calls in an 8 point game at the goal line with 10 seconds left.

Your team can always play better, and your argument leads to "you can never complain about the refs because if you played better you would have won anyway."  Michigan was in a position to potentially tie the game at the end, and they weren't able to do so, in large part, because the refs didn't do their jobs.

The refs didn't botch a snap. Shitty playcalling=not punch it in in at the goal line twice at the end of halves with no QB run. The game would have been ours to win at the end if we take care of business in the first half.

I have been a huge Hoke/Borges supporter but that was their worst game in terms of preparation, readiness and playcalling. We could have moved down the field at will if we stop calling shit plays. We just made the Iowa D looked good.

Oh and leave Devin on the bench unless Denard is hurt.

What does a botched snap and shitty play calling have to do with horrible officiating at the end of the game?  Michigan got jobbed by the officials.  Everything that happened before that is completely irrelevant to whether or not peolpe should be upset about the way the game ended.  It is true that there are lot of reasons as to why Michigan was in the position they were in. It is also true that there is no other way to describe the refs non call on the last play as anything more than causing the game to end in a fashion that had nothing to do with the quality of the play.  The game ended with a good route, a good throw, and a receiver that was open by position.  The cornerback obviously interfered with the receiver, and the ball fell to the ground.  Game over.

Essentially what you are saying is that we didn't play well enough to win the game, so we should just take it.  I think Michigan played well enough to be in position to tie the game(which, obviously they were-I didn't imagine that they were inside the 5).  I would agree that maybe Michigan didn't deserve to win the game.  But, deserving a thing has no bearing on whether or not we acheive a thing.  Michigan was in position to score at the end.  Many feel that the refs robbed Michigan of scoring at the end.  I think it is pretty obvious that Michigan should have had one more play.  Thus, regardless of the circumstances leading up to the play,  we have every right to blame the refs for not having the opportunity to have one more play, at the very least.
