OT-Detroit Lions fans start Anti-Nickelback petition.

Submitted by maizenblue92 on

Detroit Lions fans are not going sit by and let Nickleback ruin their first good season in quite sometime. They have started a petition to keep them from performing at halftime of the Thanksgiving Day game. You can see it and sign it here

I'm not a lawyer (nor do I play one on tv), but since they've announced Nickelback as the half time act I think it's safe to assume that contracts have already been signed. I think that means feel free to sign whatever you wish but I doubt it will make any difference at all.

I would take the Rolling Stones over Nickleback, even if the Rolling Stones were blind, deaf, dumb, and mute. Nickelback is the worst thing to happen to music since...well since anything. You are right that most halftime shows suck, but that is because the NFL won't take anything controversial and won't bother to look for good bands that aren't listed on Top 50 shit bands and groups that America listens to. Nickelback is literally the least talented musical group ever (honorable mention going to Creed).

I remember when I had to suffer through Enrique Iglesias about 8-10 years back during halftime.  I'll sign the petition in hope that others don't have to suffer as I once did.

Look people, to get rid of Millen and get decent coaching we had to cut a deal with someone. You know who.  This is the other half of the bargain.  Suck it up and deal.

Sorry, but I have to curse at you.   FFFFFFFFUUUUUU!!!!!

I posted yesterday in the other Nickelback-related thread that I forever hate all halftime shows because of the lingering bad taste that "Up with People" left in my mouth from their 80's Super Bowl appearance.   Their message is so uplifting, their image is so squeaky clean...yet I despise them to unfathomable depths.  And now you insist on further haunting my soul with their collective smiling visage.   You are not on my holiday card list this year, Mgrowold.

I hated nickelback, got free tickets to a concert and they are fantastic live. Look their songs are catchy, sound very good. I know the lead singer sounds a little wierd, but that is their style. I care more about the game anyway, what do I care what music is playing while im waiting in line to piss.

the hate for Nickelback. Sure they are a horrible corporate rock 80's sounding garbage band but the radio is full of that crap.  I was at the game when it was Jesse McCartney! Wasn't it Kid Rock last year? Is there a dime's worth of difference between Kid Rock and Nickelback?

stands out as particularly crappy even though they are surrounded by crap on the radio.  Nobody has liked Nickelback in a least 5 years, and that is counting those that were Nickelback fans for a period of time.

And the Lions don't even play that much nickel, so it is even contrary to the on-field product.

You can hate Kid Rock all you want, but the guy is genuine Detroit, and a lot of people (not myself included) can relate to his music.

I don't get why we are pissing and moaning about this anyway. Everyone has different musical tastes and Im sure they have a signed deal for this performance. Besides, if you don't like it, get off your ass and get a beer if youre at the game or some GD pumpkin pie if at home and come back in 10 minutes.

I would think people are pissed because they're paying for the Lions to hire Nickleback, and people obviously don't like their music. If enough people petition/email/call, then the Lions (like any profit seeking organization) won't book acts like Nickleback again.

It's not any different than people not shelling out cash for a Mel Gibson movie because they dislike him, other than Nickleback is the secondary product here.

imagine if the lions had used their #1 overall draft pick a couple years ago on nick sheriden. choosing nickelback to play the halftime show is an even worse decision. the epitomize everything that's wrong with popular music in that they have no talent or originality whatsoever. they actually have negative talent and originality. the use the exact same (admittedly catchy) horribly simple riffs and progressions ad nauseum. if you'd never touched a guitar in your life, i could have you playing their entire repertoire within a a day. and that is not a testament to my ability as a guitar player or teacher.
