ACE: Shaq Thompson Taking Official Visit to Michigan
I just chatted with five-star CA S Shaq Thompson on Twitter, and he confirmed to me that he'll be taking an official visit to Michigan. Thompson is the top safety in the country and the #12 player overall on Rivals, so this is obviously huge news. Still waiting to hear back from him about which weekend he's visiting (it's either Nebraska or OSU, obviously, and I'm guessing it's the latter), and I'll let you know when I find that out.

Michigan and Notre Dame are the only two eastern schools he's considering, so if he's taking an official, that's huge. Once you get him on campus, you never know what could happen...

ESPN lists Shaq's official visit to Ann Arbor for 11/25/11 (day before OSU)

So, Shaq Thompson is taking a visit, and Greg Matteson is one of the best recruiters nationally. I like our chances.
Jordan Payton is deciding soon, Yuri Wright has us in his top two, Stefon Diggs just named us in his top 5, and we're in the running for another elite lineman.
If Payton wanted a fab 5 to commit to Michigan with, the above scenario sounds pretty good to round out the class to me.

Shaq, Yuri, Payton, Diggs and anyone else would be a pretty awesome Fab 5. If the anyone else is Banner, Garnett or Dunn, we'd be challenging for the top M class ever.
And we would win lots of national championships.

Nearly 24 hours after Rivals reported it. You're getting there Ace. You're getting there.

It's news to those of us unwilling to pay for Rivals. If Ace can get info from the horse's mouth within 24 hours of it coming out, that's fine with me.

No doubt spots are being opened for recruiting needs.

If Shaq comes to Michigan, I will forgive myself for being a virgin.

You may want to check your scales unless you are in high school.

I report and do some other editing for a local-DC Sports site here called DCSportsFan.com, so I know and have talked to these guys. Irregardless of whether Diggs gets into Michigan it is critical, nay ESSENTIAL that Michigan's coaches and staff becomes familiar with Blake Countess's former school. It is a football factory.
This year alone, they are producing probably 8-10 D-1 prospects (including 5-star Diggs and 4-star Wes Brown) and next year they have WR Kendall Fuller, Digg's younger brother and a slew of other talent coming up.
Young men go here to play football at a high level -- and they learn from one of the best. This program is on-par with the best in Florida, Ohio, maybe Texas. You wonder why Blake Countess is balling right now as a true freshman? It is because everyday in practice he played against Diggs (best overall player in MD LAST year)--his friend and competition. And he got coached up too.
I don't know if Diggs is going to come or not but establishing that connection, with Countess last year, was key. I did talk to Wes Brown two weeks ago and he mentioned Michigan in his top 7 or 8 -- which is a direct result of Countess being there for homecoming (Michigan bye week).
Both those guys are unreal. Diggs - you have to play him at WR in college and the next level. Too dynamic and explosive with the ball in his hands.
Let's see what happens.

This seems like a good post to me, but I have to question your credibility when you say you're an editor and then start your next sentence with Irregardless...

If we can establish a pipeline with this school, we'll consistently see top classes. They produce a lot of prep talent year in and year out. Best in the Mid-Atlantic.
