M Hockey Goal Horn

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

As you Michigan hockey fans have noticed this past weekend, there has been a goal horn installed in Yost. I put together the most accurate representation I could possibly do of this.

Personally I don't mind it since you can hear the band play The Victors unlike other conference teams that are obnoxiously loud and generic.

Enjoy.

GO BLUE!

Even before the goal horn, I could never hear the band begin to play the Victors. It's very hard to tell when to start the Hailing and fist pumping. That's because the crowd goes NUTS, and I'm too busy screaming and high-fiving everyone in sight. Because of this, I don't think that's a good argument against it.

However, tradition and rabble might have a point. In fact, though, a goal horn would be necessary in a quieter venue to come immediately after a goal. It's really unnecessary in Yost because the crowd reacts immediately and acts as its own horn. If the crowd weren't so receptive and loud, it would be an awkward silence in between the goal and the Victors. I guess this is true in most venues, but the other horns I've heard were much louder and more obnoxious. So maybe to really have a purpose, it should be louder. I don't wish for this, don't get me wrong.

I am not really against it, mostly indifferent. From what I have heard over the radio broadcasts (I graduated last year), this sounds close to what they use. I was hoping someone would get the horn they use recorded at a game.

Yeah, this is stupid.  Really, really stupid.  Yost is getting some of the small "everybody does it" marketing touches Michigan Stadium is getting, and it isn't cool.

Get off my lawn, etc.

When Michigan scores the noise should not be "WAAAAHHHHHH". It is yelling and cheering. Really loud yelling and cheering. And then the band plays indecipherably for a few seconds till everyone figures out where in the fight song we are.

IME, the goal horn is the biggest abomination to Michigan sports that Dave Brandon has done so far. Dave Brandon looked upon the best fans, best homeice advantage and greatest atmosphere in college hockey and declared "DERP! THIS NEEDS MORE HORN". Seriously man, it's Yost. Yoooooooooossst, you fool! I am rage

Where are the Children of Yost on this?  We have an official student group for promoting hockey awesomeness.  They need to start a chant in the 3rd period of games that are well in hand of "Leave Yost Alone (clap)" or something like that, the way we used to chant "Fi-re Mil-len" back when that was thought funny.
