Nice to join you all for another Lions game.

Have my opinion everyone! I have no respect for Tebow. The more I hear about him, the more contempt I have for him.

I don't like to see players get hurt - even if it's the opponent's best player - but I won't be bothered if he goes down hard.

Is it Tebow himself that bothers you? Or just simply the fact that he gets so much airtime on every single show devoted to NFL coverage...despite not doing a whole heck of a lot on the field yet?

If it's the latter, I'm with you...there is an ungodly amount of hashing and rehashing that occurs on those shows (my patience and tolerance of this has steadily decreased over the last few years). But otherwise, I think he's just a fiery guy who's very confident in his beliefs and values, and that will permeate EVERY aspect of his life (as it should, if he's truly as devout a Christian as he appears). But yes, that can certainly grate on people, I get it.

I think the disdain is due as much to anti-Christian attitudes among the secular than anything Tebow does.
I think people forget that bigotry exists everywhere among all groups. The anti-Tebow animus some display is an example of this.

Seriously? You don't think there could possibly be some other reason why people don't like him? I don't mind him, but I could see his habit of constantly giving Jesus credit for his performance in football giving some of the more rational Christians (i.e. ones who don't think Jesus cares about football) some fits.

I've also heard some Christians being annoyed with him because of how much he is admired for his missionary service. So he went to a third-world country for 2 weeks. Is that actually impressive to anyone?

Regardless of one's beliefs, at some point it's just annoying to listen to someone banging on about the same thing, especially when his performance hasn't lived up to his draft position, his endorsement deals, or his popularity.

Unfortunately, you are correct. In any case, I think people who are outspoken tend to catch more attention, and thus, more flak. In Tebow's I don't view him as a "hellfire and brimstone" preacher-type, just a guy who stands that strong in his faith. As a lifelong Christian myself, I respect him totally for this (though my style of expressing my beliefs may tend to be more muted).

In terms of Tebow giving Jesus credit for everything he does on the football field, that's just an extension of him viewing Jesus as the source of all his gifts and talents (and thus, the opportunities to impact people's lives in a positive way). It's not simply about Jesus caring about football ...though I believe He's a Michigan fan.

And I think that's just about enough of that for now, just wanted to fully share my piece.

I'm no "fan" of Tebow, but he is without question, the best collegiate player of my lifetime. I just never thought his skill set would translate to NFL success. Off the field he sounds like a stand up guy, and pro spoorts could certainly use more of those.

Edit: Best Collegiate Football player

Without question? Are you kidding me?

He was the most pushed. He was a good leader, but never did that much on the field to WOW you.

Shawn Crable pegged Tebow pretty well when he said he was a guy who could both run and pass but wasn't exactly great at either one.

The Detroit Lions finished the first half of the 2007 NFL season by clobbering the Denver Broncos and ending up 6-2. They finished the season 1-7 and then lost their next 16 games in a row.

The Detroit Lions are about to complete the first half of the 2011 season by clobbering the Denver Broncos and ending up 6-2.

Sound familiar?

They have?

They took the third best available QB with the number one overall pick, they took a tight end with stone hands in the first round, a RB who can't run it up the gut and has a history of concussions in the first round, a RB whose achilles tendon exploded, another defensive tackle in the first round when they could have taken an elite defensive end instead (oh, and Fairley hasn't done ANYTHING). Another wide receiver in the 2nd round when they have glaring needs on the offensive line.

Derp.

The only solid pick they have had so far has been Ndamukong Suh, which was a total no-brainer.

Stafford has 19 tds vs 4 INT's, a much improved defense, Petitgrew's has dropped fewer passes this year. They also drafted a solid receiver in Young, a promising DT in Fairley, and rebuilt their linebacker and secondary corps to the point where they have a top 12 defense.

Oh and they have won 6 in a row on the road.

How you can blame the Lions for Leshoure's freakish injury is beyond me.

The simple truth is at you do not like the Lions. You are too much in the possession of your prejudice to see that they have made great improvement at all levels. Too bad for you.

Are you saying that Freeman and Sanchez are better than Stafford? If so, look at some stats. And to be fair to Pettigrew, he has just a couple drops this season. Also, injuries happen. Best did have health issues in the past, but LeShoure did not.

What stats am I looking at? Josh Freeman had a hell of a rookie year and Sanchez has taken his team to the playoffs multiple times. Stafford is Glass Joe from Punch Out and has lousy accuracy.

Robert Quinn was available at #13 overall. To suggest that he did not grade out as highly as Fairley is just plain ignorant. Add the facts that the Lions were already stacked at DT and their top DE is an aging veteran, and I don't think it's unfair to suggest the Lions made the wrong pick. Sorry, dude.
