This is the right thing for him to do. The last thing we want is for him to commit, and then transfer in the middle of his freshman year.

It's interesting, though, given all the negative stuff that's coming out about Kelly (the USC players saying that they gave up in that game, his comments after the game about his players, the on-camera stuff, etc..) that kids are still having positive experiences there. If I was a prospect, I'd have second thoughts about that program.

You're right that ND already has 3 wr commits, but only one of those is a consensus 4 star.  The other two are 3 star guys so this might not scare off Payton as much as we would hope.

Besides, he seems confident enough in his abilities that no matter how many good wr's ND has, he probably believes he will be able to crack the starting line up in a reasonable amount of time.  I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm just saying that there is another way of looking at it.

It's certainly not great news, but I wouldn't get too worried. Michigan is still in good shape in terms of receiver recruiting, and Payton is still planning on announcing pretty soon, by all indications. Even if Payton doesn't commit (though I think M still has a very good chance), receiver recruiting is going to be fine. (I think this is the metaphorical "holding" being asked of me.)

I will be mildly bitter about drafting the "Hello" post, however. And for the jinx-accusors: C'mon, you knew I had to have it ready.

Remember when we used to get really good news on a regular basis, be it a win, a recruit or an LOL moment at rivals?

Feels like there has been a huge shift in the universe in the last 10 days.

Has he ever said what he's looking for in a school?  I feel like Michigan has the edge in pretty much all the categories and even if they're equal in those categories, I think he would contribute immediately at Michigan.  Although, maybe immediate playing time isn't important to him.
