Millen simply confirms he is a moron, his take on Gholston

Submitted by iawolve on

There a numerous reasons for people in this board to not like Millen. Since I am not a Lion's fan, I just think he is idiot in the same manner of Dr. Lou. When they speak, you realize those guys are fools. However, Millen seems to laugh off behavior that doesn't seem that defensible as if people get their facemask twisted 180 degrees all the time at the bottom of piles. Herbie has to play the grown up and help Fowler out by actually saving the discussion.

BRCE, the Ford family is pretty well-known for dipping its fingers into the details of the Detroit Lions. It doesn't necessarily happen on every decision.

Hiring Millen (someone who'd willingly play the stooge) fits into the larger plan.

Not sure WTF is going on with this year's team. I suppose a blind squirrel *will* sometimes find some acorns.

EDIT: Ha! I just saw the blind squirrel cartoon in another post.

Oh, OK. "Others." Good source.

The Lions are 5-1 because they have drafted three of the most explosive young talents in the league (Stafford, Calvin, Suh) and made good decisions on bit players at linebacker, secondary and tight end.

You sound like someone who doesn't even know that Millen was removed as GM over three years ago.

My best guess here is that WCF is so senile that he has become WTF, his home is a de facto one-patient nursing home, and that he is no longer able to give feedback concerning the day to day operation of the team.

I am sure that what Bobby Layne meant when he said the Lions wouldn't do anything for fifty years is that he knew WCF would run the team for that long, and knew that no team being run by WCF would ever win a championship.

If Millen was a fall guy for a senile WTF, I would be a lot more impressed than if he had actually made all of those terrible decisions by himself.

One would just think if you wanted to post the story about what Millen said about Gholston you would do a simple MGoBlog search to make sure it wasn't already posted. And, logically you would search Millen Gholston.

There have been a ton of nice posts bashing Gholston, but I really don't think we need 3 separate threads about what Millen said about Gholton ... the exact same article

Here's a simple Millen Gholston search with results:

A lot of these old school guys played in an era in which being in a pile up basically meant somebody else in it was absolutely going to try and distribute some very serious pain unto you. Still, he's got to realize that the game has changed as these other old timers have.

Wow, I am surprised any of us survived, now that you put it that way.

I have been bitten, had my leg twisted, my hand stomped, my head kicked, and probably more I have forgotten. I also suspect those same things happen today and have nothing to  do with your view of "old timers".

This stuff still happens.  But what has changed things is TV.  Some of the things not seen before are now being caught.  Suppose the M-MSU game happened in the 60s or was on the BTN, how many of us would have even known about the head twist?

I meant to elude to the fact that dirty play was, in general, much more accepted in the past as being just another part of the game than it is today and THAT is why some of these "old timers" don't see it as being that big a deal as others might. Of course these things happened then as well as now it's simply a matter of what is seen as okay and not okay.

Agreed.  There's nothing really old school about playing dirty.  My playing days ended only 7 years ago, and as a center when I played, I dealt with people going out of their way to break the fingers on my right hand; i.e. purposely stepping on them when I was down and grabbing at them in a pile up.  And yes, they were successful on multiple occassions, as a few of my fingers that don't bend all the way anymore are a testament to.  On the other end, I also never missed an oppurtunity to gut punch a d-lineman jumping to swat a pass or sneak a chop block with a fellow lineman if a d-tackle was getting too confident with his pass rush.

That being said, as "dirty" as I and the people I played against were, when the whistle blew, everyone stopped and punches thrown out of anger rather than strategy, along with anything directed towards the neck, was strictly off limits.

Agree that this confirms suspicions about Millen just. . . not. . . being. . . much of a mensch. Something of a parallel to Pryor's nincompoop 'everybody kills' comment.

The fact that Millen is employed by anyone to talk about football is a mystery to me.  Maybe ESPN will open their eyes soon.  But then again it's ESPN, they have their own credibility issues.

Explain exactly what was Gholston was suspended for:  merely the punch?  "Where he momentarily lost composure?"    The murderous snapping of Denard's neck was deemed OK?

"I deeply regret momentarily losing my composure late in the third quarter of last Saturday's game against Michigan," Gholston said Thursday in a statement released by the school. "Although provoked, my response was inappropriate. Coach Dantonio regularly reminds us that actions have consequences, and I will be better prepared to handle these circumstances in the future."  SI

"In the heat of the moment, he momentarily lost his composure," coach Mark Dantonio said. "Football is an emotional game of split-second reactions. It was an unfortunate incident."

I'm just glad you guys have other rivals and have at least temporarially shifted focus to MSU hate with all the Gholston threads and the new tagline. YAY no more cooler pooping, Jim Tressel cheats jokes! (for now.)
