Scenarios where Gholston was called Tom at UM

Submitted by iawolve on

Bye week in addition to this story seeming so ridiculous about Gholston being called Tom and that was what shifted him to MSU. I decided to give it a think so see if I could solve this mystery. Tried to get out of the box. Not sure if you have any thoughts.

· Last year’s staff not familiar with “defense” and players of this strange craft, assumed he was 2012 recruit Tom Strobel.

· Gholston is a dead ringer for “Tomi”, GERG’s stylist who obviously was around the program frequently. Easy mistake to make.

· Blame it on Hilfiger clothes, their name is all over place. Gibson probably assumed the logo was a name tag.

· Had paranormal experience in Schembechler Hall, thought Fritz Crisler was talking to him and calling him Tom. Everybody knows Fritz only talks to Harmon when the lights are turned off. What an idiot, no wonder he is a Sparty.

· Looked directly into Tom Hammond’s eyes while watching the ND game on TV that weekend. Lost all track of space, time and identity as he was assimilated with the Hammond. See also Borg.

· Small children mistook him for Tommy Amaker, whom they feared had come back to take over the basketball program. They fled in tears screaming for the bad man to go away.

· Had an episode while watching cartoons the morning of the visit. Voices in the TV told him, Tom, to kill Jerry, or Denard, which does not start with a “J” but whatever. The voices said that this was the only way for Tom. Later that morning, Mr. Rogers told him to punch a Wolverine in the throat to save the Neighborhood of Make-Believe. Mr. Rogers also said engineering students at MSU count as well for punching, which I suppose is obvious to any MSU football player.

The announcers for the Big Ten Network were visiting campus that day, and after having lunch with Kenny Dewens and Mike Van Bergen they saw Gholston and quickly gave him a "hey, Tom!"

And the coaches figured (incorrectly) that BTN announcers were credible human beings... so they followed suit.

Then Gholston went home and cried into his binkey and whispered "I'll show em! I'll show AAAALL of them!"

the son of an auto parts manufacturer. Envisioned this large man in a little coat.

<br>I can see how they wondered if he ate paint chips as a kid. He probably thought Herbie Hancock signed the Constitution.

Michigan staff was not actually talking to William.  Rather, they were talking to TomVH who was sitting behind William chronicling his recruitment.  William didn't see TomVH because he was " buckled up" which restricted his turning movements.  It was a rather unfortunate set of circumstances.

that he hates Michigan because we're all racist and randomly called him the same ambiguous nickname on several occasions. Dudes a lying liar and he plays dirty.

fer godsakes. Like almost anything related to football, we have a precedent.

If we can have Butch "Don't call me Harold", we can have William "Don't call me Tom".

What is all the fuss about?

This thread makes me uneasy.

We've already been falsely accused once this week of "racism."  The rumor, such as it was, was crushed under the weight of its own ridiculousness.

And this thread, such as it is, attmepts to use humor to further turn that lie into a joke.  I'm okay with that.  I don't want to be a wet blanket, and sometimes humor can be a very effective weapon in debate.  But humor can be a pretty tricky device.  Usually requires considerable skill to exercise properly.

I do see that the racism charge won't go away.  Some of the Sparties now accuse us of racism in simply calling for the suspension of Gholston.  (It is a politically ridiculous charge, given that two noted politically-liberal columnists, Michael Rosenberg and Jon Chait, have each called for Gholston's suspension.)

AND SO LET'S BE VERY CLEAR.  MY CALL FOR GHOLSTON'S SUSPENSION IS NOT MUCH OF A STRETCH.  GHOLSTON IS GOING TO BE SUSPENDED, AND THERE IS NOTHING ANYBODY CAN OR WILL DO ABOUT THAT, EXCEPT FOR THE SPARTAN STAFF WHO MIGHT TRY TO GAME THE RULES AS TO WHEN AND HOW GHOLSTON IS SUSPENDED.  NOBODY NEEDS TO WORK ON GETTING GHOLSTON SUSPENDED.

MY REAL, LOUD INSISTENCE IS NOT THAT A SPARTAN DEFENDER WHO IS BLACK BE SUSPENDED; MY LOUDEST INSISTENCE IS THAT A WHITE PLAYER FROM CINCINNATI MOELLER PREP -- MARCUS RUSH -- SHOULD BE SUSPENDED.  MARCUS RUSH SHOULD BE SUSPENDED ALONG WITH GHOLSTON.

So much for racist motivations.
