OT- Some Good News- Red Wings 4-0

Submitted by Yostbound and Down on

Not that this makes up for an awful day for Michigan sports fans, but the Red Wings are 4-0 for the first time since 97-98. Franzen scored in the last minute of OT to beat the Wild.

Good news for you, I guess. Congrats, but I (like many Michigan fans) couldn't care less about the Red Wings. Sorry, I'm cranky and don't mean to take it out on you, but we're supposed to limit OT posts during the season, and I'm getting tired of daily Tigers and Red Wings posts.

This is what I honestly love about this blog.  It's knowledgable, not just about Michigan sports but all sports in general.  I say let it go with the flow.  A lot of people from Michigan who attended Michigan love the Wings.  I went to school with kids who hated hockey or could care less about it (from the South, never experienced it, etc.) and grew to be Red Wings fans because they lived with other kids from Michigan.  I mean it's at least related to the state of Michigan.

I understand the rules (the sentiment not so much) but the mods don't seem to mind it and a lot of posters enjoy it.  This is essentially my one stop shop for sports related news.  No one's forcing you to click the topic and read it.

TLDR: Pull the string and take a Midol.

So, Minnesota is supposed to be the "State of Hockey".  I move to take that title away from them.

I was at the game, and was appauled at the immense lack of hockey knowledge by the fans. But, I must support my claim.

Premise One:  Smart hockey fans do not boo at every penalty called against them.
Premise Two:  Smart hockey fans do not call an obvious tripping call in OT "bull----".
Premise Three:  Smart hockey fans understand that when you get beat 14-41 in shots, you were outplayed badly.
Premise Four:  Minnesota Wild fans booed at every penalty called against them, they called an obvious tripping call in OT "bull----" and they did not understand that when they got beat 14-41 in shots that they were outplayed badly.

Therefore:  Minnesota Wild fans are not smart hockey fans.

It makes perfect logical sense.

Apparently those years without a franchise took something out of the fan base.

That was one of the things I loved most about having season tickets for UofM hockey. Everyone knew that you could make a hand pass in your own zone. Everyone knew what a good penalty kill looked like, and to applaud the forechecker on the PK for pinning the puck in the corner for 20 seconds.  And everyone appreciated a two-line tape-to-tape pass.

My sadness from today just healed a bit. :) Man oh man that is sweet to hear. 1997 and 1998 were two Stanley Cup Championships that I will never see from anybody again. Nobody will accomplish the two back to back sweeps ever again.
