I have heard many many Spartan fans say "stay classy Michigan," which is hilariously backward. They cheered when Denard was hurt. Fuck that.

I don't think this really needs its own thread unless more gifs of cheap shit are posted

You're right. That wasn't even a rivalry. That was a bunch of ass holes trying to start a fight with a bunch of guys who weren't having it (for the most part). That's not a rivalry. That's just pathetic.

you mean they pushed us and we were too classy to push back?  I'm not sure what this post even means.

of course it's a rivalry.  does it mean more to them?  of course.  does mean it's meaningless to our guys.  and there are a whole lotta threads on this board that testify to the fact that it means a lot to us too.  I hate losing to them.  That's a rivalry.

And look at the post game interviews.  To a man our guys admitted they got outmanned and beat up by that Defense.  That's not good.  But it has nothing to do with our guys "not having it" - that's nonsense.  I'll tell you what though, i'm glad our guys have the balls to admit it - that's how you overcome and come back next year and kick some ass of their own.  I'm old enough to remember some nasty physical games in the 70s and 80s...it's great to have that back, and I look forward to our guys giving as well as they take.  Or, to go about "having it" all game long.

Robinson is a heck of a nice guy.  But, I bet you would have felt better if he kicked an MSU player in the arse, threw a ball in someone's face, or at least farted at someone.

This is a rivalry game.  MSU gave you 13 penalties and you still couldn't win.  Also, if your defense has gotten close to Cousins maybe you could have had a few roughing the passer calls--it's hard to do when you're not within five yards of the guy.  MSU's defensive coordinator said, "football is 60 minutes of unnessary roughness."

Were they cheap shots?  Hell, yes.  But this is the B1G, not flag on a Sunday afternoon.  If you are satisfied with a team of boy scouts, then fine.  Just don't plan on winning anymore MSU games or championships for a while.

Oh yes, because if there's any fanbase with the most class, it's the fanbase that idolizes Jailin' Rose and Chris Weber. Hell, even Desmond Howard was a pretentious douche before he was a has-been.  Do I even have to mention Mike Hart?

Face it, your team is as soft as the flabber on Hoke's chins. They can't compete with a real football team.

I was there for the whole game this statement is not true. The. Beer. Am for the incompletion, it was quiet while Denard was down except for the penalty call. The entire stadium clapped when Denard got up and came off from the field. They did when two other players were down hurt as well including the student section.

the post game presser?  Not up at mgoblue yet.  I want to hear Brady's justifications on some of these calls and his reaction to the thuggery.

I give Hoke credit...he hasn't made excuses and dismissed questions about anyone playing "Dirty" - "I don't know how they played dirty," Hoke said. "They had some personal fouls on late hits on the quarterback, but you can get those all the time."

Martin: "We knew what type of game this was going to be," Martin said. "It's going to be a tough, physical game. Coach talked about keeping our poise and composure as a football team. I think we did a good job of it on that side of it.  "I mean, who doesn't know what this type of game is? It's a tough physical game, period. It's an in-state rival. It's big for both teams. That's what it's all about."

Kovacs: "They were definitely more physical, They pounded us. They beat us up. You've got to give them a lot of credit.

And Denard makes the biggest staement imo - given all the hand-wringing here anyway - "Asked later if Michigan State played dirty, Robinson said, "No. We were playing football. It's a dirty game."

Hoke on the 4th down call:  “We’ve been very successful over the last two years off of that same play...It was Al’s call. I was the one who said, ‘Go for it.' "

I noticed they didn't put lewan up there for a question like that.  I think he might have a slightly different opinion, although I respect our teams decision to take the loss in stride, shitty cheap shots and all, and move on for the rest of the season/rivalry.

The way they won? Come on they beat us up and down the field period. Maybe one of those calls (the punch, which was after an shove to the head, doesn't justify a punch but it wasn't unprovoked). Those calls we're iffy and they did get penized for them, We got beat because they were better not be ause of some calls which we benefited from. MSU was not classless on the field or from the fans , don't forget how we celebrated the Notre Dame game lets be real!

Organized taunting?  Multiple late hits? I don't remember that being true of us in the ND game.

Yes, they were better today.  But I have lost all respect for Dantonio, his players, and their staff.  Players wouldn't be doing that if they didn't know there would be no consequences for them.

MSU fans are actually saying that Lewan deserved to get punched and that the play wasn't that dirty. Of course, they're also saying that Gholston should not be suspended or disciplined. Keep it classy, East Lansing.

What Lewan did wasn't exactly clean either. HOWEVA, the little facemask nudge on Gholston is far less damning than a fricking PUNCH and HEAD TWIST. The former is maybe a 15 yard persoanl foul if teh refs see it, the latter should be instant ejection and suspension.

I honestly cannot fathom how you can defend that punch and say he shouldn't be suspended. I don't care what Lewan did...you do NOT throw a punch in football, and when you do you should get ejected and suspended. I don't care what Lewan did. You just can't do that!

"Will Gholston had a fine day for the Spartans, but he probably shouldn't have been on the field for the fourth quarter. In the third quarter, Gholston was flagged for piling on Denard Robinson well after the play was over, then wrenching Robinson's helmet around for good measure. Later in the quarter, Gholston was being manhandled away from the play by Michigan OL Taylor Lewan, and when Gholston made it to his feet, he summarily punched Lewan in the facemask. Famed referee Mike Pereira said on Twitter that he would have ejected Gholston, and it's entirely possible that MSU or the Big Ten will suspend Gholston next week when Wisconsin comes to town."

Let him be on the field for the ass kicking Wisconsin is going to put on them. The refs will be watching closely cuz everyone will be talking about how bad the refs were in this game. Michigan didn't play well enough to win but MSU got away with murder. How many personal fouls against MSU? Too many for any team I ever coached. Some of my kids would be sitting the bench watching. But HS football isn't big business like college football. Dantonio is not my kind of coach.

Hear, hear!

I posted this elsewhere but at the very end of the game, the last thing viewed before the broadcast switched to the Texas game was Gholston going up to Coach Hoke and getting his attention. I'm sure (mostly) to shake his hand, but at the moment I imagined this,

"Hey Coach Hoke!" BAM!!!

Of the three major personal fouls, this is the one I have the least problems with.  We all know how agressive Lewan can be, and my guess is after watching film this week he'll be in for some extra conditioning drills.  There was no real injury risk with this play.  The facemask twist and body slams are what really piss me off because those could have crippled Robinson for life.

I think if you watch the rest of that play, Lewan kinda holds Gholston down but doesn't get called for it.  And as he was getting up I think Lewan was talking some smack.  Doesn't excuse a punch but Lewan wasn't 100% innocent on that play.

come on...he pushed his face into the turf and was jawing at him ALL GAME long...Lewan is well known to be a talker.  Gholston reacted badly and got flagged for it.  he's hardly Jack the Ripper.  Just watch how non chalantly Lewan walks away after the punch...he did what he wanted, instigated the sophomore and got him to commit a stupid penalty.  all gamesmanship, but he was definitely pushing it.

A stupid penalty that results in a one game suspension from the Big Ten, and according to Jim Delaney it is "unnacceptable" and "has no place in the sport of football or the Big Ten Conference." This isn't some little thing that happens every game, it's a big deal.
