Poll Dancing in the TOP 10? Michigan #10

Submitted by sheepdog on

Disclaimer 1: According Brady Hoke, myself, and most of you, none of this really matters, just thought it would be fun to look at.

Disclaimer 2: I used to Coaches Poll, because we are ranked higher.

Disclaimer 3: I am sorry if this post lets you down after reading the title.

I wanted to see where Michigan could be positioned in the polls headed into Week 9 against Purdue.  Here is a look at the games for the top 10 scheduled for week 7 and 8 and how some "poll dancing" could be in store.

WEEK 7, OCTOBER 15

(1)LSU at Tennessee

(2) Oklahoma at Kansas

(3) Alabama at Ole Miss

Indiana at (4) Wisconsin

(5) Stanford at Washington St.

 (6) Boise St at Colorado St.

(7) OK. State at (22) Texas

 (8) Clemson at Maryland

 (20) Arizona St. at (9) Oregon

(10) Michigan at (19) MSU

Keep an eye out: It is interesting to take note that the entire top 10 is on the road in week 7 except for Indiana at Wiscy, and Arizona St. at Oregon.  Even though most of the top ten should coast, keep your eye on the Clemson, Oregon and Oklahoma St games.

-Clemson: Maryland beat Miami (YTM) and played West Virginia and @ GT close.

-Oregon: Arizona St. has only lost to (the real deal) Illinois.

-OK. State: Lately, do we ever know which Texas team is going to show up?

Assuming Michigan wins: if we see a loss in one of these teams or even if the favorite slips up, look for Michigan to move up 1-2 spots to 8 or 9.

Best Case Scenario: Michigan wins CONVINCINGLY, and the 7,8,9 either lose or play poorly, Michigan moves up to 7th.

Finally: doesn’t look like 11-13 will put any pressure on Michigan to jump them this week.

 WEEK 8, OCTOBER 22

(24) Auburn at (1) LSU

Tennessee at (3) Alabama

Texas Tech at (2) Oklahoma

(4) Wisconsin at (23) MSU

Washington at (5) Stanford

Air Force at (6) Boise St.

(7) OK. State at Missouri

North Carolina at (8) Clemson

(9) Oregon at Colorado

(10) Michigan OFF

Keep an eye out: The only seemingly real game this week is the Wiscy-MSU game in EL.  But, can we really go week 9 with about a dozen undefeated teams?  Statistically not likely, but could happen.  Look for at least one SHOCKER this week as a top undefeated team could go down – don’t know who, but it happens every year! Look for Ohlahoma, Wiscy, and OK State to be tested this week.

Michigan: OFF this week, but does not get pressure from teams ranked a little lower to be jumped.

Best case scenario: If Wiscy, OK State or Oklahoma were to lose, Michigan moves up to 6th. (Jump Boise for 5th, eh?)

Go Blue.

Quick note, its Indiana @ Wisconsin, not the other way around which you typed in the Keep an eye out section.

Otherwise it is interesting information to look at and think about. However for any of this to occur we need to take care of our business and the rest will sort itself out.

For what it's worth i accumulated about 9,900 of those back when you used to get mega-points for saying something snarky and people would reply positively to your thread.  Shoot, the whole RR coaching change issue probably accounted for 9,500 of those.

But good retort on your part!

To me, if we beat Sparty, we will probably be ranked #8 or #9 going into Purdue, which also should be a relatively easy win.

Don't expect a lot of the teams above us to fall though, you can easily rise from 25-10, but going from 10-5 is pretty hard.  Top 10 teams rarely lose and when they do, it's to other top 10 teams so don't expect us to jump really quickly, although if we are able to keep winning, who knows where we'll end up

This is definitely an informative post (and clearly took a lot of time) but I've been seeing a lot of this wishful thinking and jinx-posting going on around here the past week or so.  I've had to untie and tie my shoes so many times to balance out the karma that my fingers are raw to the bone.  Please, please stop jinxing this run!

in two weeks? this seems like you're setting yourself up for a letdown. As much as i believe this team can win, I continue to just keep myself calm and make sure I don't make any predictions for how the season will go.

I am a newby and unable to post.

The State of Michigan lost a police officer today......saw it over on RCMB.  Several posters on RCMB are being totally disrespectful A&%holes.  Officer was struck by a car being driven by bank robbery suspects.

Thoughts and prayers out from the Wolverine Family.

Think that a better exercise would be to see how many top ten team are going to lose b/c they play each other - example, OK - Ok state, LSU - Bama, Oregon - Stanford, etc. Assuming we keep winning and aren't behind a one loss team, this will show how high we can go - don't see us jumping anyone - perception of B1G (except Wisc) is just too low this year

That a lot of BIG IFS.  Keep winning is all we can do.  Oklahoma vs OSU, LSU vs Bama and Stanford vs Oregon will give us a couple spots if we do our part.  I am excited but also can't get rid of the feeling this all falls apart like the last couple years.  Love the direction of the program though.  #HAIL

Win this week, and I think we can probably hope to be ranked for the rest of the year.  Yes, I'm keeping my sights low after the last few years.

My best-case scenario is for Sparty to lose twice.  If both Michigan and Wiscy defeat the Spartans soundly, they will realize that they aren't going to have two good years in a row.  So will the pollsters.  Better yet, so will instate recruits.

Hoke, Mattison, and Borges just might pull a little bit of "Michigan Man Magic" on NSD and flip a Sparty recruit if things really go right.  I know the class is filling up, but I'll bet the staff could find "room for one more" if the recruit in question had been previously "destined" for EL.

Who would you want to flip from the 2012 class though? They only have two four-stars, DE Se'Von Pittman and WR Aaron Burbridge. I guess Aaron Burbridge would be good considering we need to take two wide receivers in this class. I like the idea of taking away talent from Sparty as much as anyone else, but I think we're full on defensive ends.

I still don't know anything about 2013 recruiting though.

One other thing to mention about Clemson is that their QB Tajh Boyd suffered a hip injury last week. While he did return to practice this week, it will be interesting to see if it limits him at all. Without him at QB, their stock could take a big drop.
