Long Field Goals

Submitted by NeilGoBlue on

Sometime in the past, Hoke said that Wile would handle the long field goals.  Why is Gibbons kicking the long ones?  Wile can't be any worse. Right?

But more seriously, if you're going to worry about consistency of 47 yarders, you're going to worry a lot. Even if you're a fan of the Lions.

But down the stretch in the B10 season (next week even) there's a good chance we won't win every game by 21 (or 18) and a field goal or 2 could make the difference, so it's disconcerting we still haven't gotten this situation handled.

If Gibbons can't kick it high enough on longer field goals, he obviously just doesn't have the range for them.  Wile needs to be given a shot on the longer ones and get some in-game reps so he's not stuck trying his first long field goal in a high pressure situation.

To figure a 47 yard field goal for us is at best a 25% shot. On the other hand you have 4th and 3, which is like a 75% chance, given our offense. So why not go for it!

<br>Not that I really care right now. We did score 42 despite 3 TOs.

kinda weird that Gibbons really hasn't gotten any better on FGs (other than those from PAT-ish range)? All I hear is how awesome he is in practice. What happens on game day? It's gonna cost a game eventually.
