If anyone has a Scout subscription

Submitted by Brian on
The next time MGoBlog (read: Tom) beats everyone to a story, as he did with Gallon, and Tom Beaver attempts to cast doubt on the legitimacy of the information by claiming they are "myspace/facebook" interviews, please politely* inform Beaver that Tom used his "phone" to "call" Jeremy Gallon and then relayed what he said. Sort of like what everyone else does. Yeah, it's a blog, guys. Sometimes it (read: Tom) beats you to stories. Sonsabitches what do we have to do? *(seriously, be as polite as possible and don't get your post deleted.)

JG posts this "FOR ALL WHO ARE WONDERING I QUALIFIED FOR SCHOOL AND I WILL BE AT MICHIGAN THIS FALL...GO BLUE I am a Michigan Wolverine" and Tom called him to confirm that he indeed is capable of typing is breaking a story? And on TOP of that, Tom Beaver is throwing a fit about this? You guys are all pathetic, you, Brian, less so than Tom (either). Holy shit, breaking information. /rollseyes Edit: Tom's "Interview"::Journalism as MeWritingMyNameInPissInTheSnow::Calligraphy Edit2: Doesn't Tom at Scout call his posts "blogs"?

Dude, it's not the Sistine Chapel and it would pass without mention if this wasn't habitual. It's not like this is a front page post. It's just fuckin' irritating, you know? Insert message board SLAM about getting panties bunched about panty-bunching here.

If I remember correctly, one of the VB guys has actually worked with Tom Beaver (in real life, not on the interwebs). I believe the phrase he used to describe him was "creepy gnome", or something along those lines.

None of this is really surprising. If anybody at either of the major sites ever gave credit to outside sources (or the other site, for that matter), it would be a bad precedent. It's opens Pandora's Box for "well, if a different site got the scoop, I don't need to give this site my money anymore." It's petty and borderline juvenile, but it'll never change.

I'm erratic like Johnny at RBUAS in the posting regard, I'm afraid. After the Wings lost I was bummed, so I didn't even login to Blogger for a while. I'm slowly starting to get over hockey and back into UM football mode though, and I'm getting the feeling of doing some sort of post tearing down the MSU recruiting propoganda. Can't really give you a firm and steady date for when that'll be done though. Sorry. :)

Please politely* tell him to stop with the lame headlines. "U-M gets Gallon of jet fuel"?? That's awful. Do they really pay someone to come up with these things?

A separate post titled "Gallon Interview" and containing a simple link to your site was deleted--oddly, it was posted by a guy with the same screen name as mine ;)

Would love to post on scout about this... unfortunately (or fortunately), it's that sort of shit from Scout that made me drop my subscription. I'd rather shove my head up a bull's ass* than listen to TJB wax poetic about his faux-journalistic standards (which, not suprisingly, seem to be a moving target depending on when he breaks news vs. another outlet). *No, people, NEVER take a butcher's word for it. Never.

I like most of the stuff that he reports, however the fashion in which he does it is very irritating. One of these methods is his Beaver-speak, where he just says random things that get a board into a frenzy expecting the top 15 recruits in the nation to commit on the spot in 30 seconds. That really irritates me. That and his adamant refusal to accept that someone beat him to a story. Very frustrating.

if you want the information scout, you have to take the good with the bad. the good, they report tons of information, even little tidbits, and do so quickly and often. the bad, they have bizarre inferiority complexes and other strange fixations.

me exactly what Beaver said about Brian or Mgoblog? I'd like to avoid actually going to Scout at all costs, if possible. So if anybody actually does and wants to share... ...i guess what I'm saying is, this is the ONLY site I ever use for Michigan information. (Well, except Varsity Blue and other sites of people who are "friends of the board")

Tom Beaver wrote: "we confirmed it but, the mgoblog interviews are MySpace or Facebook ... not that I care, it doesn't bother me ... it seems to bother some tho, never have figured out why" My interpretation is that he was saying that it was not legitimate when Mgoblog broke the story because it was derived from "MySpace or Facebook". However, Tom had an actual phone conversation with Jeremy before Scout confirmed it which puts that to rest.

Tom Beaver is severely mentally ill with delusions of grandeur. That site is downright creepy. The only good thing there are the informative posts by the mysterious “Maizeman.” As soon as I figured out Maizeman’s posts were available free at gobluemichiganwolverine.blogspot.com, I stopped sending that Beaver loon my money. I also suspect he’s a pedophile (just an opinion, please don't sue me for defamation). And he emits unpleasant odors (this is factual and I am prepared to defend this statement in court).

Are you serious about Maizeman being a Schem Hall janitor? I've always suspected he's some sort of facility/equipment employee. That would explain the very real access over the years coupled with atrocious spelling and grammar. Seems like a nice guy.

Wow; so the analysis of the Michigan football program which determines the mood swings on the Scout boards is determined by a janitor? Well I wouldn't expect that your typical janitor would be so well versed in the analysis of collegiate football.

this post actually creates an ironclad case of defamation, right? Calling someone a pedophile in a public place (even while saying "it's my opinion") is a pretty big deal. In all seriousness, I'd prolly ask Brian to delete this one if I were you. Yes, INTERNETZ IS SRS BZNIZZ and all that, I understand. But I have read about a teacher that sued the shit out of a student that posted that he was a pedo on a message board and won.

via the link provided on this board. Wow, I was stunned... I will make this pledge. If this blog here ever turns into that, well, I will find someone to blame. I will find out who you are. I will hunt you down, and I will kill you.

sucks about that. It actually surprises me that they got beat. Usually they go to great lengths to post unconfirmed rumors first and then verify them hours later. (see: Javarie Johnson commits)
