Would you rather have Amara Darboh or Jordan Payton?

Submitted by kaykaybroke on

Just wondering in the eyes of the mgousers, which WR you would rather have in this years class? I understand that taking both is a possibility, but with the likelihood of Michigan leading for both, which would you take over the other?

Payton has been considered ovrrated by some, but still looks like a solid possession reciever, while Darboh seems to be the "big-play threat" type of player. Rivals and Scout ratings seem to prefer Payton to Darboh, but they're both consensus four stars.

Thoughts?

I know the sites have made distinctions between them but they don't seem like very different players to me, they have pretty similar skill sets. Either one (or both) would be awesome to have come to Michigan.

Ideally I would like to see us take Payton and Stefon Diggs. Simply because I see Payton and Darboh as being a wash skill wise while I think it's important to maintain the west coast pipeline Hoke and Co. developed while out here.

I would really like our coaching staff to do anything the can (within the rules of course) to get him to come on an official. Then, leave a spot open until signing day. We shouldn't accept a commit from him if he isn't going to qualify, but if he does qualify and we didn't get him on campus to give us a chance in his recruitment, I will be disappointed.

As players, I like Darboh better.  He's a more explosive player.

Payton is bulkier and more physical, so I think they compliment each other well.  Darboh and Payton are kind of like Stonum and Hemingway as players.  I tend to like the explosive athlete better, but both would (will?) add a lot.

Both, but to me Payton is more like a Hemingway/Avant kind of player, possession receiver with good hands and good presence and Darboh is more like a Stonum kind of player (elusive and fast) and since Stonum should come back next year I'd rather have a good possession receiver to replace Junior, Roundtree doesn't fill his mold either, then again, I'm greedy and I want both.

I think what the OP meant to ask was, "who would you rather have [wear the No. 1 jersey in 3 years,] Amara Dorboh or Jordan Payton?"

Both! But if I were to pick one, for our current WR situation, it'd be Payton. He appears more game ready and we need contributions from our WRs right away. If this were three years from now after we've established a stable pipeline of WRs for our current system, then I'd go with Darboh.

I really hope we get both of them this year and then extend a signing day offer to Treadwell!

I'm personally putting all my eggs on the Dorial Green Beckham basket. Fuck anyone else. They're all a bunch of bums.

The more I follow recruiting, the less I believe in out-of-state pipelines.  Michigan got in with Pahokee for a couple years, but it was short-lived and Rodriguez didn't really come close with any Pahokee kids for 2011 before he was fired.  Other than Pahokee, it seems like "pipelines" consist of a couple players, max.  If Darboh's the better player and he happens to come from Iowa, then I'm not sure Payton + 1 unnamed player > Darboh in the long run.

The real pipelines appear to come from in-state schools (Glenville for OSU, Cass Tech for Michigan, Ingham County Jail for MSU, etc.).  Outside of the home state, it's kind of a crapshoot.
