The Big East is dead in the water and most of those teams have nowhere to go and nobody to invite. Pretty sad. Even WVU seems doomed to a future in Conference USA+

I really hope TCU ends up in the Big 12. It is just a way better fit, especially from a geographical standpoint. It would be fun to watch them battle UT and OK on a yearly basis.

Don't think TCU will be giving a big hello hug to SMU these days.  Wouldn't Houston be more likely than SMU?  And Rice will always just suck -- they are a small school, add so little to the mix.

That said, i wanna drop a note, I worked with a former Rice cheerleader, the petite kinda gal who they always put at the top of the pyramid -- and I will forever be a fan of Rice for that very reason.  Who also went to UM for grad school.  ***Sigh.***

some bad blood right now...but why not add SMU and BYU get the tri-fecta

Also, does anyone else get the BYU channel?  They show football games on it as well as other programming...wonder who would broadcast a game btw them and texas

How would you like to be Rutgers right now?

My favorite post from their message board:

"We're fine. We're going back to the glory days of the 70s except with expenses that 1000000% higher. What kills me is that anybody who ever wrote a negative article about big time football suceeding at RU is going to be proven right. I and many others defended this program through thick and thin, and this is what we end up with....

...and for all of Schiano's BS talk when he was hired 11 years ago, what have gotten. Not even 1 Big east title in a terrible conference."

C-USA and Mtn West are currently talking about a merge that would send a winner to the BCS instead of the Big East getting a spot.

Basically the winner of the C-USA would play the winner of the Mtn West...and that winner would have an automatic qualifying spot that the Big East would vacate.

The Big East will try to combat this by stealing the best Conference USA schools.

Super conferences are not going to happen, as long as we define it as four 16-team conferences.  There just aren't enough "worthy' schools.  The Big Ten, SEC, and Pac-12 would have to be the ones to drive that boat, and if they could actually find 4, 3, and 4 schools they want, there wouldn't be enough left to form a fourth equal conference.

Five "Big" conferences will survive with the Big 12 being a slightly better version of the current  Big East.  If the Big East does survive, it'll be at best a mountain west caliber conference.

If you're talking four 16-team conference. It could've easily happened.

Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, OSU to the Pac-16

Mizzou, ND, UConn, Pitt to the B1G

Texas A&M, FSU, Clemson, L'ville or WVU to the SEC

Rutgers, L'ville or WVU, USF, Cincinnati...and then UCF & ECU or Kansas & Kansas St. to the ACC

Geographically it would've been a mess...but it could've happened. And without taking teams non in BCS conferences. Or you take 2 (UCF & ECU) and the Kansas schools are left out to dry. This also leaves teams like Baylor, Iowa St., TCU, Boise St., Memphis, and Tulsa on the outside looking in.

The point is, that's not four super conferences.  That's three super conferences and one made of leftovers.  And considering the assumptions taken to make your scenario happen, I feel safe in saying it's not going to happen.  The Pac 12 rejected your exact submission.  The Big 10 likely would have stopped at ND and one other.  The SEC is not interested in L'ville or WVU.

There's just too many problems and not enough solutions for the pure super conference model being floated, mostly by the media/fans.  All objective evidence points to conferences being cool and calculated when moving to add certain schools (well, except for the ACC adding Syracuse and Pitt).  The people in charge will not lose sight of the bottom line just to creat some fan based utopia with four equal(ish) 16 team conferences in order to get to a playoff.

Well I guess I wasn't clear.  They are not in the Big East this year but have already signed the paper work to join them next year so technically they have joined the Big East.  Now this may be a moot point as they will most likey be leaving the Big East to join the Big 12.  They could not leave the Big East if they are not in the Big East.

They're going to the Big 12. There is absolutely no reason not to. They make more money, keep their rivalries AND their travel expenses for their olympic sports are cut in half. No way in hell they don't go tot he Big 12.

Mr. Yost

Mizzou to the SEC

Big 12 has 8 teams...

TCU to Big 12

Louisville to Big 12

W. Virgina to Big 12

Big 12 has 11 teams...

Big 12 will look to add BYU as 12th team, if they say no...Tulane (AAU member) and Houston become candidates with SMU begging to be the 12th and Tulsa trying to figure out why they're not being considered.

Big 12 will take BYU or one of those 4.

...from there it gets interesting. Do C-USA and Mtn West come to an agreement and shut the Big East out? OR Does the Big East respond quickly and start poaching teams from those conferences?

If the Big East is pro-active they take UCF, ECU, Army and Navy to add to UConn, Rutgers, Cincinnati and USF. UCF an USF become an instant rivalry, UConn and Rutgers, Army/Navy, and then ECU and Cincinnati by default.

Wear a bunch of "TCU/Big East" paraphernalia--sweater, hat, #1 foam hand, pennant, jewelry, etc. Look forlorn all night.

As a side note, I think we will be monitoring closely the comparative fortunes of TCU and Texas A&M over the next 10 years.

I don't see how any conference is going to go past 14, and why the Big Ten would go past 12 when it's already printing money and there's no one out there that delivers anything, except ND, who ain't walking through that door.

I don't really see how you have a bidding war here.  Big East is dead.  They're WVU and then mediocrity after that.

The B12 has a chance to survive on in some form if Texas and OU stick around.  Or if nothing else you can attempt to latch onto Texas and go to the PAC with them (if that happens).  The Big East offers no future and no exit strategy.

TCU will be in the B12 barring the PAC knocking on their door, which I don't see happening.

I thought I heard on the radio that TCU was going to accept an invite from the Big XII, to which my immediate reaction was, "Swing your partner, dos-i-do, change your conference, here we go!"

I can't imagine the parties that are raging on campus! This is likely one of the biggest days for their fans, to be going into the Big 12....something that UT and A&M would not ever allow.
