Pitt beat South Florida who beat Notre Dame who beat Pitt ... Uhhhh wait a moment, wait a moment... I am detecting a failure of the AE35 unit...
So that logic doesn't work. Army's triple-option will confuse a lot of defenses. Illinois didn't do so well running against NU (although that in part is the fact that U of I was playing from far behind most of the 2d half). It's apples-to-oranges-to-pears.
Besides, is it just me, or do teams like NU, Iowa, Purdue, Indiana etc. seem to look EMBARRASSINGLY BAD in the OOC schedule, yet when B1G games start, they look 10X better and seem able of pulling upsets.

I see a 31-16 win, or thereabouts. I'm just saying, just b/c we beat SDSU and SDSU beat Army and Army beat NU, doesn't mean we are a lock. Besides, you're ignoring the Persa factor in all that anyway. With Persa, NU beats Army I'm sure.

I think Persa might have been pre-season all big 10 (at least in some publications). And he's barely played one half; the reason their QB #s are down this year. He is expected to play this Sat.

Lucky for us, Northwestern has the 2nd worst ranked Defense in the big ten right now only ahead of Minnesota. As for their offense, their running back is out for the season and Persa is very limited with his abilities, seeing as he hurt his leg again last week when he was already limited in his mobility.

That we're playing them away. Teams sometimes lose to inferior teams when playing in a hostile environment (jitters, crowd noise, difficult to get into a rhythm, etc.).
The perfect example of this, to me, would be the year #1 ranked Oklahoma lost to Kansas State in the Big 12 championship in Kansas City, which wasn't home but might as well have been. This same KSU team had lost to Marshall and Oklahoma State, which had lost to Oklahoma 52-9 earlier that year. But Oklahoma wasn't prepared, and Darren Sproles ran all over them. The whole game, OU looked frazzled and out of its element.
I'm not saying this will happen to us...actually I think we're going to win this one, and possibly by a handy margin. But I can see why the upset might seem like a smart pick for a professional commentator.

Sure, but Northwestern isn't really a hostile environment. I think Northwestern is a decent upset pick based on Persa, but I'm not worried about the away factor until next week.

ESPN writer predicts Michigan loss to Northwestern
The Detroit News
Michigan is a 7.5-point favorite in its game at Northwestern on Saturday night, but at least one analyst thinks the Wolverines will suffer their first loss.
ESPN's Will Harris predicts a 38-35 Northwestern victory.
"This senior-laden Northwestern group may be looking at the program's last good shot at toppling Michigan for several years," Harris writes. "The Cats have their backs against the wall and will make the most of the opportunity."
Saturday's 7 p.m. game in Evanston, Ill., will be televised by the Big Ten Network.
This is the first road game for Michigan (5-0), which lost to the Wildcats, 21-14, the last time the teams met, in 2008 in Ann Arbor.

Actually, picking against UM is VERY trendy right now. Mike Hugenin and Gary Ahern at Rivals.com as well as Phil Steele are all picking N'Western over UM.
If Persa is 100% (big IF, there), then I think N'Western has a decent shot (35%) at pulling off the upset.

is not concerned with who the opponent is. They are focused on the coaches game plan and firmly believe that following the plan and playing to their abilities will result in a win. This is confidence in each other and the coaches. They know this year is different ...much different!
