Michigan Bars in Miami and Elsewhere

Submitted by El Jeffe on

This will be a mostly self-serving post, but I will add a dash of benefit to the greater MGoCollective.

The self-serving part is that I am looking for a Michigan-friendly bar in Miami, FL, where I have just moved. The excellent Google Map sticky maintained by JLo lists two bars in pretty far north Miami, but I am looking for one closer to downtown, say, from Brickell to South Miami, including Coral Gables. Any suggestions?

The collective benefit part is that I would encourage everyone to visit that sticky and populate it further. It's a great resource and one we should try to keep updated. And thanks, JLo for doing that.

As a final reward for your indulgence, I offer this:

I can't speak for anyone else, but I am getting a little tired of these posts.

You know a bar in Maimi, but you want one closer to your house? Come on now...

A bar in a big city could possibly be 30-45 minutes from your house, and if youre drinking then it would be helpful to know if there was a location closer, so I understand the OP's motive.

I also agree that additions to the map would be helpful, as I just moved to Colorado Springs and there is nothing listed...is it safe to assume that I should just be happy that Denver is within 2 hours and accept that as an option? Any fellow MGoUsers in the Springs know of any places to gather? Id love to find some UM fans to enjoy the games with...

  1. You're so tired of this kind of post that you spent energy clicking on it and posting to it? I don't think you're that tired.
  2. The bars on the sticky are nearly an hour away. Yes, I'd like one closer to my house. That's how come I asked.
  3. Did the picture of Denard and Desmond not please you?

I live near the Coconut Grove area, and I don't know of any bars that cater specifically to Michigan fans.  A poster below has it right that the Alumni Club used to meet at Shula's but now they meet at Upper Deck in Broward.

I got some friends I watch games with, and a local bar (downtown/grove/coral gables) would be nice to go to.

I lived in Miami for a bunch of years and the alumni always met at Shula's.  I am sure there will be several bars near Brickell/Coral Gables that will show the game, but if you want to go to a bar that for sure will have other UM fans go to one of the ones listed on the map.

There's always an alumni gathering at Upper Deck in Hallandale, FL.

I live in FT Lauderdale and I meet people there from Miami up to Palm Beach.

... don't be fooled by the name, it's a nice place and has great food.

The Skybox on Polaris Pkw is expcecting 30 or so Michigan fans for the first road game.  They've had 20 or so people the last couple of games.  They've even dared to put the Michigan Schedule up in Coulmbus.  Come on out and support the Blue Saturday.

wasn't one when I was down there 5 years ago.

You should just start one.  Best sports bar down there is Flanigan's off Bird Avenue in Coconut Grove, but that's not really the type of bar you'd be able to take over.  You could probably takeover Sand Bar in Coconut Grove, which is also pretty decent.
