A New Way to View UFRs
We all love the in-depth analysis provided by Brian's UFR posts on MGoBlog. But sometimes the voluminous stream of information can be daunting.
I have created a web application to make viewing of UFR data easier and more powerful. You can step through the game analysis play by play or search and filter using a wide range of criteria. For any play, you are just one click away from viewing the corresponding video clip. I am now happy to make this app available to the MGoBlog community.
Disclaimer: This is a user-generated project and not an official feature of MGoBlog. I am offering this on a trial basis. While I intend to continue to support and update the program throughout the season, I can offer no firm promises or guarantees.
I have created a simple web site from which you can launch the viewer for your game of choice. There is more information at the web site. It can be found here:
In the future, UFR data should be viewable in the utility within 15 minutes of the UFR being posted on the main page of MGoBlog.
Enjoy!

OH GOD, THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING!!!!
Thank you, WolverineBlue, you are a god amonst men. Mgobloggers for generations to come will sing of your magnificence, and your name will be revered forever.
Brian, front page this shit.
Edit: The downside is that I will never again get work done on Wednesdays or Thursdays, but whateva.

WolverineBlue, this is amazing. I often get mixed up sorting out the UFR as it stands now. this alleviates all my problems. Thank you, a thousand times, thank you.
October 3rd, 2011 at 8:48 PM ^
This could potentially be awesome, but I'm failing to see the buttons or options when I click on a ufr. I only see the video.
(Correction: WILL be awesome, when it gets working. Using firefox on a mac, by the way.)
October 3rd, 2011 at 8:49 PM ^
That suggests that the Java applet is failing to load. There could be a number of reasons for this and it depends a lot on your operating system and browser. I will attempt to offer technical support at the target web site. See the bug reporting section or visit the forum.

I'm on a mac with Chrome, and this thing is awesome!
October 3rd, 2011 at 8:47 PM ^
and it looks awesome! Great work! more to follow.
October 3rd, 2011 at 8:50 PM ^
You have to download Java.
ED: Meant as reply to Manders.
October 3rd, 2011 at 8:51 PM ^
In fact, programming in java is a hobby of mine. Mostly little mini games. So I'm pretty certain I have it.
October 4th, 2011 at 4:24 AM ^
What browser/OS are you using?
October 3rd, 2011 at 8:50 PM ^
Ok, I have to give you props that this is brilliant. I am quite impressed with the ease of use, and it should pretty much solve any legal issues for Brian. This community never ceases to amaze me. Glad this helps preserve the functionality of the post that made this blog great.
October 3rd, 2011 at 8:54 PM ^
really help with legal problems though? Won't these videos just get pulled eventually?
October 3rd, 2011 at 8:51 PM ^
Great job. Amazing work WolverineBlue.
October 3rd, 2011 at 8:52 PM ^
so now I can't edit my above post, no worries though. One suggestion - is there anyway to pause the video automatically after the play you choose to watch happens? This is awesome once again, nice work!
October 3rd, 2011 at 8:58 PM ^
For now, you have to pause manually.
There is a scripting trick I can use to automatically pause the video, but I haven't implemented it yet because I was debating whether users would rather let the video run and hear the subsequent commentary. I may do a poll on this and make the change if there is popular demand. There are a number of video enhancements envisioned for the future.
October 3rd, 2011 at 9:13 PM ^
You can count me in the group of people who would like to have videos run for the duration of the play only, and skip the commentary. It would at least be worth some kind of poll, assuming its not too difficult to implement.
October 3rd, 2011 at 11:02 PM ^
people are more interested in Brian's commentary than Chris Martin's.
October 3rd, 2011 at 11:10 PM ^
what are the chances James Earl Jones would narrate Brian's notes such that they're dubbed over the video?
October 4th, 2011 at 9:38 AM ^
What you don't want to hear the word Cowbell used 42 times per game?

I left my ipad, logged on to my computer to write this:
holy $#^#$% this is awesome. A couple weeks ago I was hoping someone would put something like this out... incredible. GREAT job
October 3rd, 2011 at 9:00 PM ^
You have done a huge service to the community.
October 3rd, 2011 at 9:01 PM ^
That is a pretty awesome effort, and I like the way you have it set-up. Keep working on the formatting and page schemes, and I think you really have something here.
October 3rd, 2011 at 9:12 PM ^
Just tremendous, thank you.
October 3rd, 2011 at 9:25 PM ^
Most impressive. Thank you for your work.
October 3rd, 2011 at 9:27 PM ^
Way cool. WolverineBlue for user of the month! It comes with a plaque and close parking space.
October 3rd, 2011 at 9:32 PM ^
Great idea and a wonderful new way to experience UFR's!! Keep up the great work!
October 3rd, 2011 at 9:33 PM ^
This is phenomenal. I tend to skim the play-by-play portion of the UFRs and just read the summaries, but this makes it so easy to rewatch the O or the D. I love it.
October 3rd, 2011 at 9:41 PM ^
Dude, even if there are issues down the line on the videos, just being able to select UFR cells on conditions would be great enough.
A thousand thanks
October 3rd, 2011 at 9:43 PM ^
You, sir, are a gentleman and a scholar. I am unworthy.
October 3rd, 2011 at 9:46 PM ^
Diary of the week. Except by week, I mean year.
October 3rd, 2011 at 9:58 PM ^
It's...beautiful.
October 3rd, 2011 at 9:59 PM ^
Tumescence-inducing ... that is all.
October 3rd, 2011 at 10:00 PM ^
DANG
Oh my God!
October 3rd, 2011 at 10:06 PM ^
Wow, the talent among the MGo crowd never dissapoints. Thank you for your time and energy putting this together.
October 3rd, 2011 at 10:17 PM ^
Dude, I gotta say, this is pretty fuckin' awesome. Thanks a ton, and keep up the good work.
October 3rd, 2011 at 10:31 PM ^
Looks awesome, but one question:
The right side of the database is cut off for some reason. Is anyone else having this problem?
October 3rd, 2011 at 11:08 PM ^
I'm not sure what you mean by this, but everything should be viewable. Perhaps you could go to the support page and elaborate. Better yet, report a bug and send along a screenshot of the problem.
October 3rd, 2011 at 11:44 PM ^
I sent an email with an attached screen shot. It may be a Java issue, but I'm not sure.
October 3rd, 2011 at 10:37 PM ^
is, by far, the best web enhancement I have seen.
Tremendous!
For whatever they are worth anymore, you deserve 10,000+ mgopoints.
Without a doubt, Brian needs to make people aware of this.
October 4th, 2011 at 12:43 AM ^
I'd go so far as to say he deserves eleventy billion mgopoints. This is ridiculously awesome (and by awesome, I mean tremendous, of course)
October 3rd, 2011 at 10:43 PM ^
I read the comments and the intro and then hit up the app. Totally blew my expectations out of the water. It does worry me though relying on Youtube to keep hosting these games when they could take them down at any minute.
I wonder if there is another video hosting service we could link this with that would be less likely to take the games down?
Also, yes, obviously this needs to be front-paged.
October 3rd, 2011 at 11:00 PM ^
your "About" page should say more about what a UFR is, who created it, and what you have added to the process (an awesome viewer). It currently assumes a visitor knows all of these details; an unenlightened (i.e., non mgoblogger) visitor to your site will not know that you didn't do the UFR part, but rather just added the (awesome) viewer.
October 3rd, 2011 at 11:14 PM ^
Perhaps you are right, but for now the only people I am informing about the site are the fans of this blog, who I assumed already know. Still, I will probably add a little more information on the web site. Thanks for the suggestion.
October 3rd, 2011 at 11:07 PM ^
WolverineBlue gets it. Tremendous.
October 3rd, 2011 at 11:21 PM ^
Awesome app, but doesn't Brian lose Ad revenue in this case?
October 3rd, 2011 at 11:37 PM ^
I'd guess people would still give the UFR the clicks to read the shit that Brian writes at the end of the play-by-play.
October 3rd, 2011 at 11:30 PM ^
This must be what Hoke was looking at when he double pointed and made the I be like dang face.
[Edit: Sorry I missed that was already posted in my rapid scrolling. Does a double double point make it better?]
October 3rd, 2011 at 11:32 PM ^
This is incredible- thanks so much for doing this!
