Best weekend of the season so far??

Submitted by no joke its hoke on

Between Michigan looking awesome and both sides of the ball and OSU looking almost MAC'ish it's been great. Also after this weekend I'm REALLY glad we don't have to play Wisonsin!! One last thing after this weekend I really don't see a game that we cant win. Going into the season there was 2-4 games I thought we had a slim chance to win but now I think Ill. and Neb. look like our only 2 tough games. What say's you?

Notre Dame weekend was 100x better....because well that game was sweet and well...minnesota not so much.  We played better against minnesota, but it's minnesota, the crowd stopped harassing them after we got up by like 6 scores

the ending was sweet, but we played badly in many respects, generated offense/points mainly in unsustainable ways, and only won because they played worse. after that game, it wasn't clear we'd fare much better than last year's 7-5. but after this weekend, things look much different.

I would throw @Iowa in that same bag of tough games. Depending on how our game @NW turns out, there's a good chance I will stop being as nervous about Illinois. They don't seem legit to me...

The Zook factor comes into play.  You never know which team will show up when he is the coach.  He is usually great at "bullying" lesser teams, but often sucks when a coaching decision can win or lose a game.

Zook's "strength" is playing ordinary football and waiting for the opponent to self-destruct. I don't see Michigan self-destructing against Illinois this year.

OSU squeaked by Toledo at home (MAC team with losing record), got destroyed by a Miami team that looks to be not very good (2-2) and lost to an unranked Sparty team at home. I know you're obligated to say that and you may be right. But as of right now, I can't blame the OP for not mentioning them in this context.

I watched the game.  MSU scored a total of ten points against the most inept and impotent O I have seen Ohio show in years.  When your D holds the other team to ten points, you are in the game.  It was difficult to show any positive feelings toward either team as I despise them both. I believe both teams have  better D's than what we have seen from any of our five opponents to date.

I feel that we have a better shot of beating Ohio this year than we have had for a while.  After the last couple of years, I also do not let myself become wildly optimistic, lest my spirt again be crushed.  If we win the next two games, that will change.

I know we can't overlook them, but getting back those 3 guys on offense won't make them significantly better. the offensive line was sieve-like so just getting back their LT won't solve that issue, and they still have quarterbacks on par or worse than sheridan and threet. even when they get posey back, bauserman/braxton won't be able to get it to him. they're going to continue sucking

We have also lost 7 years in a row, and while I'm enjoying watching them at the moment, that streak means I'm going to keep my mouth shut until it ends.  Their quarterbacks have the rest of the season to get comfortable for that game, and judging by the way they are playing, that game will be their super bowl.

And if you think MSU isn't a tough game, you are out of your mind.

ND weekend was definitely better.  Didn't OSU lose to Miami that weekend too?

That said, we will need a few breaks, but so far dominos are falling for us.  Everyone on our schedule looks beatable.  Yes, i still think we lose a couple games, but I am more optimistic than ever.

Not even close but a good win and OSU looking like shit seems to have a made an impression on Dunn. It is starting to sound like he may be coming over to the good side.

I think the best part about that MSU-OSU game is that both teams look very beatable now. MSU only scored once off a play where there should have been a penalty called, and OSU....well they have their own Threet/Sheridan combo at QB now. So I'm feeling pretty good about the rest of the year.

Also, Persa might be out next week against us, so that game got a little easier

....to overlook OSU. Barring injuries, everyone will be back by then, and although lacking leadership and direction and,  for the most part, an offense, they are an above average team overall and they will be stoked for this game, as we will be. It's going to be a good game, but a damn tough one.

I think 6 of the 7 games left on the schedule have the potential to be tough.  We're not good enough to just chalk up wins over NW, MSU, Iowa and OSU+Tat4.  While I think we've performed towards the high end of expectations the last couple weeks, there's still potential to drop a game or two of those four listed above, there's also potential to beat Illinois and Nebraska.  I guess what I'm saying is, we just don't know enough about us and about the rest of the Big Ten yet.

The state of Michigan was perfect in FBS football yesterday.  U-M, MSU, EMU, CMU and WMU all won.  I don't know when's the last time that happened - probably many years ago.

could be a loss, although Purdue looks as close to a win as possible.  The good news is that every game on the rest of our schedule also looks winnable which I might not have thought at the start of the year.

I think this post is a good example of how it's going to take some time to get used to the division format in the BIg Ten.  It may have been a good weekend, but MSU losing to OSU would have made it much better.

Seems a bit high and I hate the thought of State benefiting with a win against a higher ranked team.  Nothing left to do for Hoke and company but to embrace and defend it though.

Definitely they best weekend for me. Had an amazing game friday shutting down and following the best reciever of granville all game. Held him to 1 catch for -2 yards. Finally getting used to this shadowing recievers stuff I've been doing it sense freshman year but working in the slot is a pain and im finallt starting to get the hang of it all. Then saturday we stomped Minnesota and I had some good quality time with my dad. And today its all about NFL football.

I think Northwestern could surprise we need to stay focused and go into that game ready to play a well coached football team. Illi and MSU have a good shot but I think Hoke will have Michigan more than ready for OSU, especially with an improved defense and there offensive struggles.
