The Curious Case of Kenny Demens

I know Brian usually comes out with his official grades pretty quickly here however I have to wonder where the production at MLB has been  this year. I dont know too much about his stats but it would seem that he has been a little under-whelming thus far.

Everyones attention was placed on Roh's dissapearing act in the first couple games, but he has come to life in the last 2 games. Many posters on this board including myself thought that Demens was primed for a big year after showing some signs near the end of last year and with us returning to a 4-3 Def. Have the opposing offesive schemes just neutralized him or his he just underpreforming??

A friend of mine tried to convince me that the true value of Demens will be seen in the MSU game because of their  much more downhill attack, but didnt Eastern run the ball pretty well?

Here is to hoping that like Roh, Demens has a some big games as we start conference play.

Any insights or ideas???

Well I didnt know where to find the stats so thanks for that! I guess I just was hoping or thinking that he would be a real run stuffer and it seems like thats not  happening. Thanks for the link though.

Denim Chicken: The Perfect Holiday Recipe

The holidays are almost upon us. This is a time for sharing warm moments with family around a large table, often covered with all kinds of home cooked recipes passed down through the generations. Even if you have no family, or simply don’t like hanging out with them, you should still make sure to treat yourself to this classic and luxurious dish: The Denim Chicken.

STEP ONE

Arrange your ingredients: 

 

1 whole chicken
1 pair of jeans
1 whole stalk of celery, chopped
1 cup of olive oil
1 cup soy sauce
1/2 cup basil
1/2 cup oregano
1/4 cup salt
1/4 cup onion powder
2 tablespoons pepper
1 onion, diced
4 carrots, chopped
1 pepper, diced
1 bundle of asparagus
1 egg

STEP TWO

Preheat oven to 500 degrees as you prepare your ingredients. 

 

STEP THREE

Chop the celery, onion, and carrots. Save carrot tops. 

 

STEP FOUR

In a large pot, add the celery, onion, and pepper. Toss in basil, oregano, salt, onion powder, olive oil and soy sauce. ...

 

STEP FIVE

Depending on your butcher, you may have to remove giblets and any other stray items from inside the chicken. 

 

 

STEP SIX

Season chicken on outside and inside with butter, salt and pepper. Stuff asparagus inside chicken. 

 

 

 

The asparagus will keep your Denim Chicken moist while it roasts.

STEP SEVEN

Your chicken is ready to go in the oven! Place chicken in a lightly oiled pan and bake for 45 minutes, or until juices run clear. 

 

STEP EIGHT

While the chicken is roasting, you can move on to your denim. Lay denim flat on a large cutting surface. 

 

 

Determine the best place to cut depending on the weight of the chicken. Since our chicken is four pounds, we’ll be cutting two inches down the start of the legs. 

 

 

Place the cut denim in pot with vegetables. 

STEP NINE

Combine denim and vegetables together. Add egg to taste. 

 

 

Let denim sit in this marinade for one hour. 

 

 

STEP TEN

Chickens done! 

 

 

STEP ELEVEN

Heat up oil in a wok, then add jeans and stir-fry until aromescent. 

 

 

STEP TWELVE

Mold jeans into proper shape on baking tray and bake in the oven at 450 degrees. 

 

 

STEP THIRTEEN

Jeans should come out firmly in the shape you need. Add chicken: 

 

 

And presto! You have a new friend!

I think this is perfect timing in relation to the thread from earlier today, and if we can stick this somewhere where others can see it as a specific example of what not to post, it might be of some benefit for the well-intentioned posters who just don't know what they're doing.

Now, BLUEIQ, please submit a 3-page essay to ProfitGoBlue by the end of the week detailing why this thread fails.

Those posters will never read the FAQs and post inane questions.  They generally also won't race to be the first one to break news on the board, or link to videos that they "found" themselves.

Of course, they don't bother to do any of that, that's why we must mock them mercilessly.

Yes, you remember him because he never did his job.  You are not hearing about Demens much right now because running backs are not high stepping past him with alarming regularity.  I don't think anybody expected greatness from Demens, just the absence of notable awefulness.  That is what we are seeing.  Demens has been solid.

I will provide an answer to your question, but first let me help you help yourself.

To check on how Demens is doing this season, you are only waiting on the UFR from SDSU.  All the other games have UFR's so that's both game evaluation stats, charts, and editorial conclusions per game.  From time to time Brian states that the UFR isn't a tool to compile stats through the season, but you can read the summaries and see a progression game by game.  In addition to that there are various Picture Pages type postings, one by Brian and a coupld others by posters.  They will be easy to find through the search engine available on this site, and you'll want to do that because it will lead you to all the other great sites that provide similar content and can provide you with excellent contrasting/comparitive information to answer your question.

My assessment from doing the above is that Demens has shown strong consistent play that is very good, but has yet to perform any spectacular "prime time" feats.  This is not at all a bad thing and is more likely the affect that there are still other weaker links than it is that he is just an average player.  I don't think he'll be a legendary player, but I think he's a pretty effective player on a still learning and thin defense overall.

My attention to Demens was focused by the running success of EMU.  The jet sweeps certainly seemed to catch everyone, but especially the LB's very flat footed.  I would have to look back at the UFR for specifics, but based on the picture page focus of the EMLOS as a key role to that, as well as the growing summary that Jake Ryan has great talent and energy, but is peforming below average on contain.  A big thing about jet sweeps is that they attach the containing position of the defense.  And if Demens had started to play out of his responsibility, EMU may have had the experience to call an option to then attack that over pursuit.  That said, I think the entire LB corp looked a little slow and lost early in the EMU game.  As always it's hard to assign blame to one person on an 11 person team, especially when you have a DC who drills for precision and everyone executing their assignment.  Thus, for every player who seems "quiet" on the stat sheet, I see a player who is executing their role, and is just waiting for the weakest links to strengthen a little bit more before they talent peaks start to show.  If you'd like an electrical engineering metaphor, our SNR is still too low to really congratulate all the heros on defense.  This approach yields average results in the short term, but big gains in the long term, in my opinion.

So, I don't expect the MSU game to necessarily put Demens up on a pedastal just because of their offensive philosophy, because every schematic approach has enough variation to allow plays to be called against the weakest part of the defense.  And unless Dantonio is a complete idiot, he's only going to target Demens is Demens is truly the weakest link.  And I don't think that's the case, based on how the opposing offenses prefer to attack the edge and to perform a lot of shifts and motion on the line so they can attack a specific side of the defense.
