Second Half: Please Pass Persistently

Submitted by 1464 on

Anybody else feel that Al should have Denard throw the ball a lot in the second half?  Three touchdown lead.  Get him more looks in the passing game.  Take the lumps if they come, but I would love to see him get comfortable enough to fall back into the rhythm he had last year.  I haven't checked, but I'd assume he has 100-150 more rushing yards than passing yards at this point of the season...

I missed the third quarter (lunch with the fam). What the hell happened? I heard we turned it over 3 times in our own territory!

A little more detail would be greatly appreciated.

In case no one filled you in or you still don't know Denard threw 2 picks. One was a pass where the Defender and Koger (i think it was him) went up, the ball got knocked into the air, and the DB caught it on his way down. Another Denard threw a bad pass, the DB jumped it and picked it off. And finally after forcing a 3 and out we gave Hopkins the ball to run around midfield and he fumbled it

I would actually rather see the offense get another TD however it may come, and then let Gardner get a lot of minutes

As much as I want to see Devin, Denard needs just as much practice to prep him for the big ten season. Hopefully Devin can get one or two series if we get up a lot.

OT: how big was that 4th down call to go for it? Possibly Changed the game. Good to see aggressive playcalling, though I felt a punt was equally justifiable.

I agree there is no reason to run him this much today....Save him for the big ten schedule and we need to get better timing in the passing game if we are going to be serious contenders.

Denard just needs to sit in the pocket and throw the ball like he did last year. If we give up that one or two times he could've scrambled so be it, but this happy feet "coach wants me to scramble but I don't really know" dance is killing us.

Sheesh, D-Rob is starring down his recievers, predetermining where's he throwing the ball, and throwing into tight coverage repeatedly.  Man, it's frustrating that he is such a talented runner, but is just not improving in his passing skills.  This will really hurt in conference play.

I love Denard, but you almost have to wonder if we are going to need to play Devin some to win in conference games.

Denard this year is exactly as I expected.  Deadly on the run and dangerous (to  us) on the pass.  Once he's comfortable he'll make another huge leap, until then, we'll slamming our heads against the walls.

Devin at QB, D-Rob at RB/slot reciever ala the way Florida used Percy Harvin.  Why not???  D-Rob can get the ball in his hands a lot in space & Devin can throw.

Play Action Pass. Borges needs to used Denard in the Play action passing situations or Rollim him out. Denard forces passes and locks on to his reciever's. Give him time.....Have faith in Denard.

As long as we beat the bottom dwellers and half of the middle of the pack in the B1G we could go 9-3. It would be nice to beat the NE, OSU's though, but realistically we are looking at a 3 to 4 loss season.  We'll see how DROB plays against MN.

they keep saying they are waiting for someone to step up at the tailback position. Denard has stepped up they just don't want to pull the trigger.

Our defense is playing a good game , I know there have been alot of dropped passes but our d line is looking good

If Denard doesn't improve as a passer quick, we are going to have some issues in B1G play. He is a bottom of the barrell B1G QB as a passer right now.

^Above, what evidence do you have that leads you to believe he will improve?  He makes the same throwing/mechanics/read mistakes he made two years ago.
