What's wrong with Denard? We have theories.

Jet sweeps and other matters. The defense: it existed after the first quarter. We try to maintain Will Campbell skepticism, talk about the status of the freshmen, and have this ... cautious optimism thing going on. Yeah. Weird.

We are going to miss Pahokee. Smith, Hawthorne, Odoms, Ash... that's a good hit rate.

Total crazy TresselSU comparison. I say something Hoke did is "very Ohio State to me" and I mean that as such a compliment. Srs.

The Big Ten has gone from suck to blow. There are no games in the league this week. Seriously, the most interesting matchups are M-SDSU and OSU-Colorado. So we take the opportunity to hit up Jamie for a State of the Big Ten. That state is "not good at football."

LOLSU. We save our longest, giddiest conversation for the stuff going down at OSU. We can totally beat them! (No we can't.)

Musical guests this week are Michigan themed:

Sufjan is Sufjan. He's the guy who did Seven Swans; he's from the west side of the state and is now indie darling. Mason Proper is from Alpena and would be based in Ann Arbor if they were currently being spastically awesome, but they're on a hiatus.

The mentality used to assume we'll never recruit Pahokee again is the same one used to assume that Brady Hoke will punt from the 34 just because he says he prefers a pro-style offense and was once an assistant under a man who did it. The stereotype quotient is high here.

And the "No we can't beat OSU" thing - that's a bit, right? A "Look at us haha we are very neurotic and we won't show confidence until we see a result and even then our fingernails will be in our mouths all day long haha it's funny" type bit, right? Because they look incredibly beatable at the moment and past season of them turning their season around should be thrown out the window with Tressel.

How many players have we recruited from Pahokee since Rodriguez left?  None.  Whereas Rodriguez offered 40+ players from Florida the past few years, Hoke has offered only about 15 for the class of 2012.  He's concentrating much harder on the midwest and on the west coast (Utah, California, Washington, etc.).

I'm not saying we'll never recruit Pahokee again, but the odds are against it happening very often.

Totally agree.  Hoke knows the West Coast and the Midwest best, so I'd be surprised if he tried to get anyone from Pahokee unless he had some major in (like a family relation).  Nothing wrong with that - RR didn't recruit that heavily out west because his ties were not as strong - but I agree that Pahokee probably won't be a fertile grounds for UM going forward.

I also think the commentary about no more Pahokee players might also be rooted in the fact that the town might cease to exist in another year or two. Everything is closing and its not like the town was in great shape to begin with. They have great football tradition down there, but who knows how the school districts will look like in 2-3 years.......

I think that you guys are underrating Ohio State and vastly overrating Illinois.  Despite the fact that they are missing Adams, OSU ran the ball pretty much at will for the short time that Jordan Hall was in there.  Miller's INT went off of the hands of his receiver.  Posey's return will help them tremendously, and Jordan Hall won't be getting any cramps in Big Ten play. 

I'm not impressed by Ilinois beating Arizona State.  ASU went 6-6 last year and didn't even go to a bowl.  The week before, they needed OT to dispatch an injury-plagued Missouri team at home.  Missouri had six starters out and their noodle-armed QB was in his second start.  The week before, he had put up 17 points against Miami of Ohio.  ASU outgained Illinois by 122 yards and gained five more first downs.

M-SDSU and OSU-Colorado are actual games me thinks, given OSU's performances to date (Close home win over Toledo, implosion down south) and how good SDSU actually is... I give a good chance to one big ten loss of the pair and a not insignificant chance both teams lose.
